Various land use techniques have been implemented around the world to regulate activity on, under, and above land. However, the pressures placed on land as a result of human and climate change effects have been identified as contributing to land use imbalances. The goal of a spatial land use strategy is to encourage internal linkages within key sectors of the economy while minimising impediments that obstruct outward orientations. With a focus on Vihiga County in Western Kenya, this article investigated the impact of Spatial Land Use Management Strategy as a tool for transformation towards sustainable development. Assessing the current Spatial Land Use activities on sustainable livelihood, investigating the determinants of Spatial Land Use Strategy in Vihiga County, evaluating the influence of Spatial Land Use Strategy on sustainable livelihood, and analysing the effects of the challenges attributed to various land use activities on sustainable livelihood were among the study's objectives. The approach revealed that the geophysical, social, economic, and political elements were recognised as important factors of the strategy's applicability, despite the fact that agriculture and commerce were the most common land uses. Furthermore, the factors and datasets can be combined to create effective and holistic spatial land use scenarios that can serve as the foundation for a paradigm change in planning and achieving sustainable development.
