Study on Regional Disparities in Cropping Intensity and Relative Impact of Irrigation in Manipur | Chapter 2 | New Perspectives in Agriculture and Crop Science Vol. 3

 An significant indicator of cultivation status in any area is the cropping rate. Since the area's crop production depends largely on the current irrigation facility, irrigation is a very significant non-physical input to agriculture. This paper therefore attempted to examine district wise success in Manipur's cropping intensity and irrigation's effect on cropping intensity. The data was taken from various issues from 1990 to 2017 in the Statistical Abstracts of Manipur and from the website indiastat.com. Reasonable statistical methods, i.e. average, were used for data analysis: compound growth rate, coefficient of variance and simple linear regression. The study found that there are differences in cropping intensity between the districts and the compound growth rate (CGR) for cropping intensity was higher in Bishnupur, Ukhrul, Chandel and Senapati, medium in Imphal West, low in Thoubal and Churachandpur and Imphal East and Tamenglon. For the overall state, the growth rate of cropping intensity is only 1.1 and the total coefficient of variation in cropping intensity was 17.94%, which shows that there is variation in Manipur's net sown area and total cropped area.
