The study was conducted on fifty farmers comprising 33 marginal and 17 small farmers in five villages in Ranchi, Jharkhand's Kanke block. The study showed that the level of adoption of hybrid rice among the sample farmers was almost 98 percent. Farmers in both classes, however were strongly inclined to adopt hybrid rice production in their fields. In comparison to local varieties, the reasons behind hybrid seed adoption were due to high yielding potential in hybrid rice production and even yield exceeds from adopted improved varieties. The study further revealed that the sampled farmers' region of hybrid rice was positively correlated with the size of the operational holding and the funds available to farmers to meet the investment involved in hybrid rice adoption on farms.
