A Recent Kinetic Studies of Interaction of Ni(II) with d-2,2-(Ethylenediimino)-di-1-Butanol | Chapter 12 | Current Perspectives on Chemical Sciences Vol. 3

Aminco Morrow stopped flow spectrophotometer was used to research the complexation kinetics between Ni(II) with d-2,2-(ethylenediimino)-di-1-butanol at 25, 30, 35 and 40 ± 0.05 ° C in the 6.18-7.41 pH range. Its antibacterial range is limited to mycobacteria, and inhibiting mycobacterial RNA synthesis affects only developing cells. Like EDTA, it is a strong agent of chelation. At 0.1 M KNO3, the ionic strength was preserved. The d-2,2-(ethylenediimino)-di-1-butanol anionic form is more reactive and interacts only to a limited degree with the protonated form. Kinetic results suggest that the ligand is not involved in the step of rate determination, which is actually correlated with the release from the shell of the metal ions of a water molecule prior to ligand complexation. Enthalpia, activation entropy, molecule energy, and formation heat were also measured. It has suggested a mechanism consistent with the kinetic results.
