The forest is the largest land-based carbon bank, and forest carbon sequestration assessments need to be based on biomass models. Based on the Zeng and Tang (2011) general biomass model M=0.3pD7/3, one-variable individual overground tree biomass models for all 34 tree species or groups in China were calculated using wood specific density data for all published tree species; and based on measurement data for 7532 sample trees from the National Biomass Modeling Program in Continuous Forest Inventory (NBMP-) In addition, for two species classes, coniferous and broadleaved, compatible belowground biomass models and root-toshoot ratio models were developed and evaluated. The results showed that in this analysis, the overall relative errors of above- and below-ground biomass estimates from one-variable biomass models produced were less than ± 1%. The biomass models built here could be used to estimate forest biomass at macro levels, which would be a significant complement to the ministerial biomass model standards that have been enacted and implemented in recent years. Finally, all the parameter values of one-variable above-ground and below-ground biomass models and root-to-shoot ratio models were provided for 34 tree species in China, providing a reliable basis for estimating forest biomass at different levels for users.
