Musical Arts Education in Nigeria and the Implementation of the Nigerian Copyright Law | Chapter 9 | Modern Perspectives in Language, Literature and Education Vol. 1

Copyright is closely linked to music and musical art forms. It is not only one of the key pillars of the entertainment industry 's survival, but it is also a foundation, an essential element in the very life of the EKPO industry[1]. In recent years, the film industry has become a multi-billion dollar enterprise, both national and international, which should be strengthened by copyright laws. The paper explored the role of the teacher's musical arts education to influence them using the more realistic project, presentation, discussion and field trip methodologies for students to experience first-hand the need to practise their arts for the good of the community it is intended to represent. It analysed the laws of copyright in Nigeria and their application to the survival of the film industry. It concentrated extensively on the copyright act; the creator's exclusive right and authorship, copyright length and intellectual property laws. The causes of piracy were investigated and the methods for fighting piracy that are paramount to the survival of the film industry in Nigeria were eventually proposed.
