Investigating the Effects of HOTS Techniques through Modular Instructions in Teaching High School Chemistry | Chapter 2 | Current Research in Language, Literature and Education Vol. 7

This research sought to determine how students at Mindanao State University's (MSU) Balindong Community High School responded to education in Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) utilising modules. The investigation employed a quasi-experimental methodology, and pre- and post-tests were performed to gauge the performance of the pupils. The research had 87 pupils in total. While the control group did not get any therapy and instead received instruction using the standard teaching method, the experimental group experienced treatment utilising the HOTS modular approach (TTA). The respondent's performance on HOTS questions, learning style, motivation style, inventiveness, and curiosity were all evaluated at the beginning and conclusion of the research. Using a quantitative and qualitative analysis together, Overall results showed that, compared to the control group, the experimental group performed much better when exposed to modular instructions employing HOTS approaches using multimodal strategies. Most of them favoured the HOTS techniques and modular instructions, and they considered it challenging yet intriguing, demanding, and fun. The application of HOTS approaches in all teaching disciplines is then advised.
