The demand for aluminium alloys, which exhibit
very attractive mechanical , physical and chemical properties, is strong in
different areas , in particular the marine structure. Different welding methods
are used to join aluminium alloys, but the new innovative and environmentally
friendly techniques are friction stir welding. Dissimilar aluminium alloys AA
5383 and AA7075 have been combined with friction stir welding in this report.
Tool rotation speed, transverse feed varying to 700, 800, 900 rpm and 40, 60,
80 mm / min are the variables affecting the welding parameter. By keeping the
axial force constant at 10 kN, the 6 mm plates are joined. Using a square
instrument with a pin diameter of 8 mm, welding is done. Using hardness testing
to know the wear resistance of the weld metal and tensile testing to know the
properties and ductility of a weld, the impact of the welding parameters
selected is assessed. For the tensile strength parameter, the maximum tensile
strength obtained is A high tensile strength of 211 MPa was developed at 700
rpm and 40 mm / min of transverse feed. The Weld quality has been studied for
different rotational velocity and transverse feed tools. The joint is affected
by the lack of heat input as the transverse feed rises and its tensile
properties are affected. The instrument rotational speed of 700 rpm with 40 mm
/ min transverse feed gives excellent mechanical properties of both tensile and
hardness from the experiment carried out.
