Tongue Abscess: Diagnosis and Treatment of an Uncommon Condition | Chapter 5 | Advanced Concepts in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 3

 Tongue (spoken) abscess is a exceptional condition that has the potential to acutely compromise the airway and concede possibility even lead to decease if misdiagnosed. The incidence of specific cases has significantly decreased because the introduction of medicines. However, our current understanding is primarily established a limited number of case reports.In this chapter, we have inspected the available dossier on tongue swelling using the PubMed table and have presented two new cases that were treated. In total, 68 cases (encompassing 45 case reports and 8 case series) join the inclusion tests and were discussed, alongside the two cases acted by the authors.The most prevailing presenting syndromes included pain and swelling of the language, though other manifestations were not uncommon. In harsh cases, securing the airway through a tracheostomy process may be inevitable. The majority of cases were favorably treated with annoy aspiration and/or surgical cut and drainage, developing in excellent outcomes. Notably, skilled was no specific bacterial pattern noticed.In conclusion, it is crucial to immediately recognize lingual abscesses, secure the ventilating pipe when necessary, and act surgical drainage as contained the treatment plan.
