Because developing tooth buds and development centres make
treating mandibular fractures in young patients more difficult, conservative
approaches are often used to avoid iatrogenic damage. This report describes the
application of this approach to a 4-year-old kid who had a displaced left
mandibular body fracture after a fall. A CT scan verified that the fracture was
successfully treated with closed reduction and maxillomandibular fixation
(MMF), which was performed completely intraorally using arch bars and elastics.
The 30-minute procedure yielded an excellent outcome with no issues, and the
patient's function and appearance were entirely restored after a four-week
fixing period. This case study demonstrates that closed reduction with MMF is a
highly effective, minimally invasive approach for treating some mandibular
fractures in young children while preserving growth potential and ensuring
proper healing.
