An Advanced Review of Next Generation Sequencing in Oral Disease Diagnostics | Chapter 3 | Highlights on Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 10

The procedure of determining the precise order of DNA nucleotides within a molecule is known as DNA sequencing. DNA sequencing knowledge is essential for basic biological research as well as a variety of clinical specialties. They can be used to sequence RNA and proteins, as well as determine individual genetic sequences, larger genetic areas, and chromosomes. There have been enormous improvements in technologies targeted at determining the full human genome since the initial DNA sequencing in the 1970s. The need for speedy and accurate human genome sequencing As a result, next-generation sequencing technology has been introduced. Next-generation sequencing refers to second-generation DNA sequencing technology that can sequence millions of DNA molecules at once. Roche/454 life science, Illumina/ Solexa, SOLiD system, and HeliScope are some of the next-generation sequencing technologies used. The use of next-generation sequencing to decode the genetic database of a variety of oral disorders could have therapeutic and predictive implications. The goal of this review is to give readers a deeper understanding of how next-generation sequencing can be used to diagnose oral diseases.
