Biology behind Diabetes and Cancer-Facts and Pathos | Chapter 39 | Socio-Scientific Interaction in Diabetes and Cancer and Its Management

 Diabetes mellitus (DM) is an endocrine problem identified by elevated circulating blood glucose levels associated with deficiency in insulin production and insulin activity or both. DM is a major health burden in the present era. The diabetes clinical manifestations are 3 ‘Ps’- polyphagia, polyuria and polydipsia. Cancer is the major cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. A number of clinical studies have explored diabetes and its causal relation with uncontrolled mitosis. Several studies have found that diabetic patients have higher chances to develop different types of cancers. A cancer patient may suffer from chronic or acute pain. Medicines exist to treat pain. Providing psychological support to cancer patients such as short-term psychotherapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy can help in relieving pain. The present article highlights the actual cause behind; diabetes and cancer and how uncontrolled diabetes increases the chances of developing different types of cancer.
