A Hybrid Approach for Managing Low Tongue Posture in Open Bite Using a Composite Habit-Breaking Appliance | Chapter 10 | Advanced Concepts in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 10

This branch describes managing reduced tongue posture in open bite by a composite clothing breaking appliance. Tongue dysfunction inform of altered tongue rest posture and language tip protrusion all along swallowing, go along with prior open bite malocclusion in majority of cases. Subsequently determining that an aberrant language posture is the cause of open bite, orthodontists should categorize language posture by examining the semantic characteristics of the malocclusion. Vertical adjustment of tongue at any likely posture deserves equal concern to that of its forward thrusting potential. In cases accompanying low language rest posture, blocking mechanism in the way that cribs, may not alone satisfy, as it also demands upward elevation of tongue to attain normal rest posture.  On the other hand, language stimulator machines, namely bluegrass appliances and language practice beads, as well as myofunctional remedy, require greatly of patient engagement to become clinically productive in modifying language behavior. We endeavour to find therapeutic potential of mixture approach; that combines forward tongue limit and vertical height via a composite habit breaking machine (CHBA), in patients having depressed forward resting posture of language. A case report has been presented to embody the idea.
