Ayurvedic Understanding and Management Strategies for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis | Chapter 1 | Advanced Concepts in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 8

 Amyotrophic Sideways Sclerosis is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by growing motor paralysis on account of degeneration of motor neuron population in the engine cortex, brain, and sleep-inducing or numbing drug cord. This condition reflects the Gati (Motor) and Gandhana hani (Sonic loss), which eventually can be comprehended under Vatavyadhi. The symptoms of ALS can be well equated to Sarvanga vata a pathological condition described in Ayurveda, that describes features like Chestahani (loss of engine activity), Vaksthambha (Dysarthria), Ruja (Pain). Ancient Ayurvedic treatises name physical and mental symptoms guide degeneration. It includes Dhatu Kshaya (~Influence wasting), Indriya Kshaya (~Reduced sensory idea), Bala Kshaya (Reduced physical strength), Utsaha Kshaya (~Diminished initiation), etc. In conventional arrangement of medicine, this degeneration can be embodied by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Patients accompanying ALS can be treated with Kapha Avrita vata chikitsa accompanying combines herbal and herbo-not organic oral medications along with Panchakarma (Biopurification) process including Gut cleansing Virechana (Elimination), Basti (Therapeutic enema) etc.  This article climaxes the possible mechanism in the exhibition of the disease ALS, and its possible completing treatment approaches integrating two together Ayurveda and modern medical literature.
