Life Cycle Analysis of the Panela Agroindustry and Intensification for its Development: A Bibliographical Review| Chapter 11 | Research Highlights in Agricultural Sciences Vol. 6

The study granted the identification of delicate environmental factors create in all movements carried out in a panela agroindustry for the purposes of diversification, output, quality, and security. According to the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) methodology, the outcomes of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) illustrate that in all impact classifications, the industrial stage of honey, panela, and carbohydrate production cause better environmental impact, accompanying the latter two being the most representative. Panela is non-radial cane carbohydrate (NCS), a high carbohydrate-content cooking obtained by dissolution of water in sugarcane juice. However, according to Ecuadorian tangible legislation, the panela agroindustry's impacts are moderate and top-secret as type II, so intensive corrective measures are optional. However, it necessitates deterrent measures aimed at checking impacts, given that it is a subsector of the sugar walking stick industry accompanying production units situated throughout the country in districts with favorable environments for sugar rod cultivation.
