An Unusual Case of Leaf-like Traumatic Fibroma in a Dentate Patient | Chapter 9 | Recent Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 1

The leaf-like traumatic fibroma (LTF) is a benign connective tissue fibrous lesion. Its clinical features include a flattened pedicle that adapts nicely to the palate and looks like a leaf. Its colour is usually pink, like the epithelium around it. The rate of expansion is slow. The lesion's diameter could be greater than 2 cm. It can live for a long time in the mouth cavity. The LTF is frequently linked to poorly fitting removable complete or partial prostheses that cause the lesion to flatten against the palate. The instance of an LTF in a dentate patient who did not use any form of prosthesis is presented in this study. Instead, the lesion was induced by a food-related damage, which is an unusual aetiology for this sort of injury. The mechanical pressure of the tongue and the effect of negative intraoral pressure were identified as possible modifying agents in producing the lesion's distinctive shape. Because recurrence is uncommon, treatment consists of cautious surgical removal.
