Estimating the Effect of Interactive Workshop on Cognitive Abilities of Elderly People Staying in Old Age Homes through Truncated Binomial Model | Chapter 3 | Current Topics on Mathematics and Computer Science Vol. 5

Cognitive decline is common in older persons, and it's linked to a drop in instrumental activity performance, which has a negative impact on their well-being. The goal of this study is to develop a model that can quantify the benefit of a score-based 21-day workshop on the cognitive capacities of elderly people with modest cognitive impairments. The maximum likelihood and simulation approaches are used to fit a truncated binomial distribution with missing zero and one classes, with parameters (ni, p), ni known, to estimate the unknown parameter p. The data was acquired using the Mini Mental Status Examination tool on 71 patients living in five old age homes in Delhi, India, before and after a score-based 21-day cognitive behaviour therapy workshop. Only those test attempts with a completion rate of more than ten percent are assessed to profit from the session. The simulation and highest likelihood estimates of p were 0.838552 and 0.835967, respectively. Our Zero One Truncated Binomial Distribution model calculated the probability of benefit (greater than or equal to 0.5) from the workshop and discovered that, using the estimated values of p from maximum likelihood estimation and simulation, 51 (71.83 percent) and 53 (74.65 percent) of the 71 subjects were respectively benefited. Our research found that psychosocial therapies had a positive impact on quality of life and mental health.
