Assessment of Effective Clinical Preceptors as Perceived by Nursing Students in National Hospitals, Cambodia | Chapter 9 | Highlights on Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 15

The goal of this research was to find the most successful nursing clinical preceptors at Phnom Penh National Hospitals and to look into the key differences between hospital and university kinds. Constrained relationships, tension, and anxiety have been observed by both preceptors and students, resulting in poor results or frustrating experiences in clinical teaching and learning. A stratified sample of 166 people was invited to participate. The survey was conducted using a cross-sectional design. Data was gathered using the Nursing Clinical Teacher Effectiveness Inventory. Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient for all items in the current study was 0.945. The results showed that effective clinical preceptorship had a moderate impact (3.02, .85). The interpersonal interaction (3.51, 0.88), evaluation (3.39, 0.93), personal characteristics (2.80, 0.83), nursing competencies (3.39, 0.93), and teaching abilities (3.39, 0.93) were all rated highly (2.70, 0.81). Furthermore, nursing students had diverse perspectives of effective clinical preceptors from one university to the next, with Chenla University being substantially different from International University (F = 3.505, p 0.05); and different hospitals having distinct perceptions (F=4.169, p0.001). Conclusion, interpersonal relationships, formative evaluation, offering ideas, and correcting mistakes without being dismissive were all deemed significant characteristics. Clinical preceptors must be able to incorporate clinical teaching abilities.
