Dissemination of a Controversial COVID-19 ‘Miracle Cure’ on Twitter: The Case of Chlorine Dioxide | Chapter 7 | New Ideas Concerning Arts and Social Studies Vol. 3

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to all types of beliefs, theories, and explanations, whether scientific, religious, or conspiratorial. At the beginning of the pandemic, science did not yet have a medicinal product for this new disease, and alternative medicines offering “miracle cures” were acclaimed by some citizens looking for an effective treatment for COVID-19. The content of these beliefs then evolves with our societies to include additional current aspects, such as distrust of authorities, conspiracy theories, or antivaccinism. Adherence to conspiratorial beliefs, alternative medicine, and rejection of political or medical authorities have affected the way citizens accept recommendations concerning COVID-19. This study aims to study a specific “miracle cure”, namely, chlorine dioxide, a bleaching agent for textiles or paper that also has disinfectant properties (water, surfaces). The dissemination of information about chlorine dioxide to French-speaking people on the social network Twitter from 1 December 2019 to 30 November 2021 is analysed using a graph network. A total of 1,252 messages were collected, containing 596 unique tweets. An analysis of tweets per user was conducted to identify bot accounts, and fake users were removed from the collected data. The results show that messages promoting misinformation, even if they are likely to be quantitatively less numerous, spread more widely than those based on more reliable information. In addition, this article shows that chlorine dioxide was promoted as an effective cure by medical doctors and peer-reviewed articles, which consequently increased the dissemination of this belief in the social space. Consequently, the process of misinformation entered the sphere of scientific controversy. When scientists have unverified beliefs and try to publish them, the beliefs become potential knowledge until the process of replication allows the scientific community to decide. The boundary between science and misinformation is becoming blurred to the point that it is no longer possible until proven otherwise to call chlorine dioxide a “false miracle cure” but a controversial treatment against COVID-19.

Assessing the Program Satisfaction of Pioneering Graduates of the Bachelor in Secondary Education–Science: Evidence from a Philippine State University | Chapter 8 | Language, Literature and Education: Research Updates Vol. 5

 

Introduction: The Bachelor in Secondary Education (BSE) major in Science is a four-year program that has a good number of chemistry and physics courses to enable the graduates to teach physical sciences courses. After the implementation of the new teacher education curricular program, the BSE major in Science program had its first batch of graduates in the academic year 2021-2022. Yet, studies on the implementation of this new curricular offering have not yet been carried out.

 

Purpose of the Study: This study aimed to determine the program Satisfaction of the Pioneering Graduates of the BSE major in Science.

 

Methodology: This study utilised a descriptive survey as a method of research. This study uses a Likert scale to assess the BSEd-Science program graduates’ satisfaction with the curriculum and instruction, facilities, and student support. This study involved 24 BSE Science graduates from State University in the Bicol Region, Philippines, for the academic year 2021-2022. Data were treated using mean, frequency, and rank. Interviews with college administrators, graduates, and the employers of the graduates were also conducted to gather relevant data that could help in the analysis of results.

 

Results: Results showed that the graduates are “satisfied” with the program’s curriculum and instruction, support to students, and facilities, with a mean of 4.4, 4.37, and 4.01, respectively. The strengths and areas for improvement of the program were identified. The identified strengths of the program are an organised and flexible curriculum, learner-centred and academic freedom, relevant competencies, approachable and competent faculty, and good resources and facilities. The data revealed that the program helps students to develop knowledge and skills, offers a holistic approach, offers hands-on activities that build students’ competence to teach different disciplines of Science, and helps with the growth and development of the learners in a learner-centred environment. The identified themes for the areas for improvement of the program are the improvement of the laboratory room and apparatus, hands-on laboratory activities, and others.

 

Conclusion: Overall, the students are “satisfied” with implementing the new program. Since the program has an organised and flexible curriculum and offers relevant competencies, further improvement of the laboratory room and laboratory apparatus, including hands-on laboratory/culminating activities, must be conducted to enhance the program’s effectiveness further.

Interactive Video of Science Practicum: The Urgency and Development of Science Practicum in Elementary Schools in Distance Learning | Chapter 5 | Progress in Language, Literature and Education Research Vol. 2

 Common video is media that holds a combination of text, concepts, sound, movement or liveliness. Learning media maybe said to be common if students are involved accompanying the media, so that scholars do not just listen to the material in the publishing. Distance learning can be finished remotely, is a learning method that can be done anyplace and does not have to be in the alike place, so it does not use a homeroom and can use information technology media in the way that computers, internet, broadcast, and other associated publishing. The aim of this research is to define the urgency of skill practicum as well as describe the process of evolving interactive videos for science practicum in primary school in distance learning. The conclusion that maybe drawn from this research is that science practicum in primary school in distance learning is an main component in science learning. Email or practicum can be done in miscellaneous ways, one of that is by providing learning videos or by using uses to support other education media.

Development and Validation of an Instructional Module in STS during COVID-19 Pandemic in the Tertiary Education Curriculum | Chapter 2 | Advances and Challenges in Science and Technology Vol. 5

 This study determines to evaluate the efficiency of a designed STS instructional module established the 2018 revisions to tertiary instruction curriculum and allure applicability when secondhand online. The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) transformed its education approach during the COVID-19 epidemic by utilizing the Virtual Learning Portal as a higher education organization. The study employed a explanatory correlation approach. In the second term of 2020–2021, the research was done at CBSUA in San Jose, Pili, Camarines Sur. 35 Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) undergraduates, including 13 sons and 22 women, secondhand the produced STS teaching module that was positioned to the university's Virtual Learning Portal (VLP). Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) Based K-4 Learning Transaction Model (K-4 LTM) in Science and Social Sciences: A Descriptive Study | Chapter 2 | Research Highlights in Language, Literature and Education Vol. 8

 This member highlights about Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) Based K-4 Learning Transaction Model (K-4 LTM) in Science and Social Sciences. Technology has enhance an increasingly fundamental part of students’ lives further school, and even within the classroom it can further help increase their understanding of complex concepts or spur collaboration between peers.As a "conceptual foundation," technological teaching content knowledge (TPACK) has happened developed to characterise the computerized data in system that teachers require for favorable technology unification. An experiment on the TPACK-based Practise Teaching Programme concerning students' knowledge achievement was transported in light of the significance of the concerns. The study has employed assorted method design particularly the embedded mixed means design used to explore the preliminary subjective study to support for a primary all-inclusive study. Further this quantitative study has happened supported accompanying a qualitative study. The sample composed of 40 student-supervisors belonging to science and commerce of the first batch joined B.Ed program of Ravenshaw University and 341 students of CBSE-associated schools of Cuttack City. The experimental plan was executed using an acclimatization of the Solomon Four Group Design. We used Mean, SD, One-way ANOVA, t-test, and added statistical means to analyse the quantitative data acquired from the achievement tests. The study group developed the TPACK-located K-4 Learning Transaction Model (K4-LTM) in response to the pre-help teachers' response.The findings pointed out that the implemented teaching processes affected pre-service coaches’ TPACK development absolutely. There were significant dissimilarities before and after the course exercise concerning Technology Knowledge, Technological Content Knowledge, Technological Pedagogical Knowledge, and TPACK usually”. The Sengol in India’s New Parliament is a Secular Symbol with Profound Historical and Heritage Significance | Chapter 11 | Recent Trends in Arts and Social Studies Vol. 5

This study aims to find literature and historical evidence proving that Sengol (Sceptre) in India's new parliament is a Secular symbol with profound cultural and heritage significance. There is mixed and confusing information about Sengol being given to the first Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, as a token of power transfer from the colonial master to India. Some media outlets, historians, and political parties claimed that this important historical event was Bogus. This historical power transfer event must occur when each government changes right after the election. Somehow, this historical event is forgotten or hidden from the public, and the Sengol ends up in the museum as a walking stick of the first prime minister since the independence of India. The current BJP government found this historical mistake. Prime Minister Modi took corrective action to restore the rich heritage and value by installing Sengol next to the speaker in the new parliament. This research intends to verify the forgotten historical events and confusion about the religious and monarch links surrounding Sengol and bring light to the public. This paper makes a comprehensive study to find the historical evidence of the event, make heritage, literature, and secular assessments, including other heritage literature assessments, and bring light to the seventy-five years of hidden history. The significant historical, heritage, scientific, and secular findings would benefit society and the future generation. This is the first research paper to address all these parameters comprehensively. Therefore, this research finding is original, not repetitive, historical, and ground-breaking in history, culture, heritage, social science, and political science. This paper will be helpful for academics, researchers, governments, cultural institutions, and society.

Strategy of Sustainable Development Paradigm for Society in Research Activities Sciences, Artificial Intelligence and Institutional Transformations of the Education System | Chapter 3 | Research Aspects in Arts and Social Studies Vol. 1

 In view of continuous developments in artificial intelligence and their integration into the educational process, the article explores the potential for improving the global educational system. The main focus is on how closely future AI integration techniques adhere to the sustainable development paradigm requirements established by the UN for the next ten years. In the context of the study, both advantageous and detrimental situations of human contact with AI are taken into consideration. At this stage in the development of civilisation, this task is important. In addition, restrictions on AI application and development are necessary to avoid the unpredictability of a "technology singularity" and its unintended consequences. The social and humanitarian aspects of sustainable development are frequently undervalued while environmental issues are sometimes overestimated as solely being important to natural sciences. The theoretical and conceptual underpinnings of topics including global institutional transformations, transformative higher education strategies, quality concerns, personality-oriented strategies, multiculturalism, and higher education communication strategies are revealed in this study. It outlines the extent and quality of higher education's internationalisation, the creation of a worldview as a foundation for stimulating and ensuring sustainable social development, as well as strategies to raise higher education's social responsibility and increase its efficacy for society. There is now a dearth of fundamental understanding of sustainable development's objectives and strategies in higher education.

Perspectives of Science’s Big Problem, Reincarnation’s Big Potential, and Buddhists’ Profound Embarrassment | Chapter 11 | Selected Topics in Humanities and Social Sciences Vol. 3

Science's concept of life is largely based on scientific materialism, which is largely unquestioned. It wields great power beyond science, and as a result, religious ideas have become increasingly sidelined. However, behavioural phenomena that seriously challenge materialism are not hard to come by. Some of these occurrences seem to point to reincarnation. The DNA (or genetics)-based model of heredity, on the other hand, provides a better litmus test for science's paradigm, as well as for the potential universal implications of reincarnation. If the conception-beget, DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid)-carried model can be proven at the individual level, we will be confirmed as material-only organisms in a significant degree. Can behavioural genetics and personal genomics, in particular, back up their DNA-based assumptions? Huge efforts have been undertaken over the last decade and a half to discover the DNA origins of a variety of health and behavioural traits. These continuous attempts have been a "beyond belief" failure, and it is here that the scientific vision faces its most serious challenge. On the other hand, the common premodern reincarnation paradigm appears to match a variety of specific conundrums and provides broad consistency across this emerging missing heritability issue. The major argument being made here is that there is a different, more wide approach to looking into the reincarnation theory. If the reincarnation phenomenon were widespread and important, it would basically throw the genetics logic into disarray. The missing heritability problem should be considered by anyone trying to make sense of religious beliefs or simply questioning materialism.

Reporting the Need to Make People Believe Science- Science is Reliable and Means Truth | Chapter 6 | Modern Perspectives in Language, Literature and Education Vol. 1

 The engine that drives the wheel of creation is physics. There is a need, therefore, for individuals to have faith in science and to believe its facts and truths. This paper explored some of the concepts of what science really is, and outlined some of the conclusions that science has concluded-the explanations given in science. Rainfall and rainbows, earthquakes, lightning and thunder are the main occurrences that have been discussed in this article. Diseases, adaptation, natural selection, mutation, survival for the fittest and evolution are other variables that were discussed. Also listed were faith and religion, as well as beliefs. The obstacles faced by the belief in science have been identified; how to solve them, and where the biggest barrier in the direction of science has been recognised as religion. In general, this paper provides readers with the overall view of science with the main purpose of enlightening people as to why they should genuinely believe in it. Identifying the main obstacle that hinders the promotion of male science ideas and offers ways to address them.

An Evaluation of the Implementation of the Dual Language Programme (DLP) among Science and Mathematics Teachers: Current Study | Chapter 11 | Arts and Social Studies Research Vol. 2

The Dual Language Programme (DLP) is a programme introduced under the foundation of Memartabatkan Bahasa Malaysia Memperkukuh Bahasa Inggeris (MBMMBI). The DLP was first implemented in 2016 at selected schools. As such, researchers had conducted a study to evaluate the implementation of the DLP for science and mathematics which has been used in secondary school based on the CIPP model from the aspect of context, input, process and product. The first objective of this research is to identify the level of context, input, process and product dimensions of the DLP. The second objective is to identify the relationship among the level of context, input, process and product dimensions during the implementation of the DLP with the teachers’ teaching experience. The third objective is to identify the advantages, weaknesses, challenges and suggestions by science and mathematics teachers in realising the DLP. This research had involved 210 teachers who taught science and mathematics in secondary school in Zone Keramat, Kuala Lumpur. This research was conducted using the survey form and interview questions as the research instruments. The data gathered from the research has been analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics by getting the value of the mean score and percentage and also the analysis of Pearson correlation. The data collected from interview were transcribed and analysed using N vivo software. The result showed that the level of context, input and product dimensions were average while the level of process dimension was high. The research hypothesis was accepted where there was no relationship between context, process and product dimensions with the teachers’ teaching experience. From the interview, we found that the DLP has its advantages and also disadvantages, but the essential steps have been proposed in this research. In conclusion, this research has given a new contribution to science and mathematics teachers in Malaysia to evaluate and improve the implementation of the DLP as whole.
