The Role of Rehabilitation Medicine in the Psychological Etiology of Blindness or Visual Impairment: A Critical Synthesis | Chapter 6 | Disease and Health Research: New Insights Vol. 6

Background: Most research and subsequent treatment interventions operate dichotomously in the conceptualization of causality regarding mental health among people with BVI, advancing the conclusion that such problems are either related to physical impairment or social structure. Roughly 3 million adult Americans have a visual impairment or blindness, and over 4 million adults aged 40 and older. Despite data demonstrating an elevated prevalence of mental health symptoms in people with BVI, this population remains largely untreated. The relatively low rates of mental health care service initiation are particularly concerning because individuals with BVI frequently interact with many systems of rehabilitative treatment intended to enhance quality of life.

Aim: The present study highlights the Role of Rehabilitation Medicine in the Psychological Etiology of Blindness or Visual Impairment.

Patients and Methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted. The literature review utilized a critical systems typology, whereby relevant literature was selected, reviewed, and analyzed intra and extra-organizationally. In addition, a thorough discussion of disability-related factors was provided, lending a socio-political lens to the problem.

Results: Considerable data indicates that short-term mental health care services for people with BVI are ineffective treatment methods, albeit primarily employed in health-rehabilitative processes. Multiple studies offered data indicating the presence of diverse and entangled mental health issues relative to vocational rehabilitation services, mobility tool utility, and emotional reactions to vision loss. Many studies suggested that disability identity work be integrated into health-rehabilitative processes for people with BVI. A critical forum or podcast can provide a means of educative introspection that aids people with BVI to recognize the power that is given, not necessarily power held. Reality therapy, then, can be an organized effort to incorporate into clinical settings which people with BVI are cognizant of, and may specifically request, during assessment or evaluative procedures.

Conclusion: To improve the utility of mental health care services for people with BVI, a reenergization of the mental health care needs of this population must occur. Future mental health policy and practice for individuals with BVI can be improved with the help of a podcast or forum that critically examines and educates listeners about the health-rehabilitation issues that impact the provision of mental health care services. In order to improve understanding of this demographic and their particular mental health needs, disability researchers must expedite qualitative, community-based techniques and develop research on integrating critical perspectives in treatment with persons with BVI.

Using Ensemble Machine Learning: A Multifaceted Approach to Predicting Rehabilitation Outcomes | Chapter 2 |Disease and Health Research: New Insights Vol. 8

The field of rehabilitation for individuals with neuromuscular diseases has witnessed significant advancements, driven by the convergence of robotics, assistive technologies, and machine learning. These innovations are reshaping how rehabilitation is approached, offering new possibilities for personalized, effective, and efficient treatments that were previously unattainable. This chapter delves into the transformative role of these technologies, emphasizing the development and application of ensemble machine learning models specifically designed to predict rehabilitation outcomes. The study provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of rehabilitation technologies, focusing on the integration of robotics and orthotics into therapeutic practices. Robotics and assistive technologies, such as powered exoskeletons and smart orthoses, are becoming increasingly vital in enhancing the mobility and autonomy of patients with neuromuscular impairments. These devices are not only extending the capabilities of traditional rehabilitation methods but are also enabling more precise and controlled therapeutic interventions that can be tailored to the unique needs of each patient. In the following sections, this study explores the intricate design and functionality of orthoses and assistive robots, illustrating how these devices are engineered to support and augment human movement. The chapter discusses various types of orthotic devices, from simple mechanical braces to advanced robotic systems that interact seamlessly with the human body, adapting to the user's movements and providing real-time feedback. These innovations are shown to significantly improve the effectiveness of rehabilitation exercises, accelerate recovery times, and enhance overall patient outcomes. Central to this discussion is the introduction of a novel, multifaceted approach to predicting rehabilitation outcomes using ensemble machine learning models. These models, which combine the strengths of multiple algorithms, are designed to capture complex patterns in patient data, thereby providing more accurate and reliable predictions of rehabilitation success. This study present a detailed analysis of the development process of these models, including the selection of relevant features, the training and validation of the models, and the implementation of advanced visualization techniques to interpret the results. Through rigorous cross-validation and real-world testing, the robustness of these ensemble models is demonstrated in predicting outcomes across diverse patient populations. The results indicate that these models outperform traditional predictive methods, offering superior accuracy and the ability to generalize across different patient scenarios. The chapter also includes a series of visualizations that illustrate the importance of various features in the prediction process, the relationship between actual and predicted outcomes, and the distribution of model residuals. Furthermore, this study discusses the implications of these findings for clinical practice. The ability to predict rehabilitation outcomes with high precision allows clinicians to tailor interventions more effectively, optimizing treatment plans for individual patients and potentially reducing recovery times. The chapter concludes by considering the broader impact of these technologies on the healthcare system, highlighting the potential for machine learning models to drive innovation in personalized medicine and rehabilitation. Looking forward, several key areas for future research were identified including the integration of real-time data analytics into rehabilitation devices, the development of more sophisticated models that can adapt to changing patient conditions, and the exploration of new forms of human-machine interaction that can further enhance the efficacy of rehabilitation. The ongoing evolution of these technologies promises to open new frontiers in the treatment of neuromuscular diseases, ultimately improving the quality of life for millions of patients worldwide.

Inflammation and Tissue Repair in Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation: Biological Mechanisms and Clinical Implications | Chapter 4 | Medical Science: Trends and Innovations Vol. 9

Inflammation is a fundamental biological response in musculoskeletal injuries, serving as a critical mechanism for initiating tissue repair and restoring homeostasis. This chapter explores the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate inflammation and tissue repair, emphasizing their clinical implications in musculoskeletal rehabilitation. The inflammatory response follows a structured sequence of initiation, amplification, and resolution, orchestrated by immune cells, cytokines, and vascular changes. While acute inflammation is essential for clearing necrotic tissue and preparing the injury site for healing, dysregulated or prolonged inflammation can contribute to fibrosis, chronic pain, and impaired function. Tissue repair occurs through a continuum of inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling phases, with outcomes varying between regeneration and fibrosis depending on tissue type, injury severity, and patient-specific factors. Rehabilitation strategies must align with the biological dynamics of inflammation and repair to optimize patient outcomes. A comprehensive understanding of these mechanisms enables clinicians to design evidence-based treatment protocols that balance inflammatory control with tissue regeneration, minimizing complications and improving functional recovery. This chapter underscores the importance of integrating biological insights into musculoskeletal rehabilitation to enhance clinical decision-making and therapeutic efficacy.

Bioethics and Physical Medicine: From the Heritage of Asclepius and Hippocrates to the Contemporary Rehabilitation Clinical Practice| Chapter 4 | Current Innovations in Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 7

Current article proposes some parallels between the principles of the healing art of the god of Medicine Asclepius, the father of Medicine Hippocrates and the modern medical specialty Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM). Common principles of Asclepius tradition, Hippocratism and PRM include: application of natural therapeutic factors and methods, holistic approach, objective. In all cases, the goal is functional recovery of the patient and amelioration of his quality of life.

The present study sought to investigate the opinion of participants in rehabilitation process (academic staff, rehabilitation team and patients) – concerning their bioethical notions in the rehabilitation field and to realize a comparative evaluation of these perceptions in the early and long-term rehabilitation.

Our randomised double-blind study included 105 participants divided into five groups (21 participants per group). All respondents were given a standardised test that covered the principles of the UNESCO Declaration on Bioethics and the List of Bioethical Topics.

Many principles of the Declaration on Bioethics are closely related to Asclepius and Hippocrates traditions, as well as concerns of physical medicine and rehabilitation clinical practise, in particular: Human dignity and human rights, Autonomy; Consent; Equality and equity; Non-discrimination and non-stigmatisation (for patients with disability). From the list of bioethical topics, the marked most important issues were: Assisted suicide, Euthanasia, Human research, Neuroethics, Pain management.

Patients' consent, autonomy, human dignity, and research are regarded as the most important elements by members of the academic staff and the staff of PRM Departments. Patients in the early rehabilitation department rated the following as the most important: pain management, the right to use modern treatment and rehabilitation methods and devices, the right to use modern technical aids, and the right to select members of the rehabilitation team. Significant items for patients in the chronic phase were autonomy, home adaptation, the right to proper information, and the right to use contemporaneous treatment methods and devices. Bioethics is considered to be a crucial link between rehabilitation and human values by all respondents. We explain principal parallels between the tradition of Asclepius and Hippocrates and contemporaneous physical medicine.

Rehabilitation of Lost Vertical Dimension Using Pankey Mann Schuyler Concept | Chapter 1 | Current Practice in Medical Science Vol. 5

In the management of badly worn dentition, it is usual practice to raise the occlusal vertical dimension in order to have adequate repair space. The impact of this divisive belief on the odonto-stomatognathic system has generated discussion. Regarding the perception of an increase in the occlusal vertical dimension, there are fundamental uncertainties and false beliefs currently held. Reconstructing a weakened dentition is stressful due to the widely differing opinions on choosing a suitable occlusal plan for a successful complete mouth rehabilitation. There are numerous schools of thought to follow for occlusal rehabilitation, the two most well-known of which are Hobo's philosophy and Pankey Mann Schuyler's philosophy. The Pankey Mann Schuyler idea offers a straightforward, step-by-step process to follow in whole mouth rehabilitation instances. The case of a 38-year-old male patient who reported of pain in his left TMJ region and showed significant attrition upon oral inspection is covered in this paper. He underwent complete mouth occlusal rehabilitation. The Pankey Mann Schuyler principle underpinned the therapy, which also included an occlusal analysis using the Broadrick flag.

Clinical Applications of Machine Learning in Stroke Care | Chapter 4 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 8

Stroke is a leading cause of mortality and disability in the world. Machine learning (ML) technologies have been progressively used in stroke therapy in recent years. This study looked at studies that used machine learning in stroke care to give a broad overview of the subject. Automatically examining carotid plaques (for stroke risk stratification), detecting stroke lesions on imaging, identifying possible treatment complications in patients, facilitating brain-computer-interface (BCI)-assisted rehabilitation, and predicting stroke prognosis have all been made possible thanks to advances in machine learning techniques. In domains like evaluating carotid intima-media thickness and diagnosing early damage of ischemic stroke using CT imaging, certain machine learning applications outperform doctors. Furthermore, ML applications in clinical outcome prediction perform similarly to or better than the traditional method of logistic regression. However, issues such as automated lesion segmentation, BCI-assisted rehabilitation, and long-term stroke prognosis prediction remain obstacles. Deep learning and other recently developed machine learning technologies may be helpful in overcoming the issues. To make these ML methods more accurate, generalizable, and dependable, more research is needed to test and optimise these ML applications, as well as large-sample studies and proper validation. As the need for precision medicine in stroke grows and machine learning technology advances, it is expected that machine learning applications will be released to improve computer-aided stroke prevention and transform traditional stroke medicine into data-driven personalised stroke management, which will lower morbidity and mortality rates, improve stroke care, and save lives.

Current Trends in the Exploitation of Mature Gas Fields to Capitalize the Energy Potential | Chapter 8 | Recent Developments in Engineering Research Vol. 11

A topical problem in the industry is the exploitation of mature natural gas fields, given that most of the output, about 70%, comes from these reservoirs. There is a significant increase in the implementation of project management in the development of mature gas reserves due to the fact that a framework for achieving the goals in a sustainable way has already been established in the execution of the operational programs. It is known as the rehabilitation principle or integrated reservoir creation of project management in the gas industry, which has a significant effect on growing the recovery factor. By applying the idea of recovery as well as expansion opportunities to drive market performance outcomes, the paper aims to present emerging developments in the exploration of mature gas fields. Gas demand dynamism is an external factor that directly affects the field's operating model, so providing an integrated, effective and sustainable field management system would mitigate the possible adverse effects and be able to solve the energy market's challenges as well.

Reporting Some Case Studies Concerning Information and Communication Technology Based Inclusion into University | Chapter 13 | New Ideas Concerning Science and Technology Vol. 4

In recent years, in both schools and universities, a transformation has taken place: the conventional paradigms of education have been challenged. Two phenomena have caused this phenomenon:

● The use by students of modern learning paradigms focused on information and communication technology;
●The increasing emphasis on the need for students with disabilities and unique learning disabilities to be included. This paper explores several examples in which we not only clarify how ICT enables students with special needs to fit into the university setting, but also how a multidisciplinary approach to inclusion project management allows you to better manage and improve the lives of the students involved in this type of project.

A Comparative Study on the Effectiveness of Supervised Physiotherapy vs Unsupervised Home Exercise in the Management of OA (Osteoarthritis) Related Knee Pain | Chapter 3 | Recent Advances in Science and Technology Research Vol. 8

Knee joint osteoarthritis is a chronic musculoskeletal condition that degenerates cartilage integrity by affecting it. In essence, osteoarthritis is a musculoskeletal condition that mainly happens in the body's cartilaginous portions of the joints. This results in inflammation in the affected joint and intense pain. This study was a cross-sectional study in which osteoarthritic patients were targeted. Using snowballing methods, a population of 300 patients was sampled to find a sufficient number of patients. The patients were then given standardised questionnaires, the Likert scale was used for the questionnaires, and the output was reported in tables. The basic goals were to assess patients' awareness, attitude and behaviours in both supervised and non-supervised physiotherapy, and finally to evaluate the most effective physiotherapeutic intervention between the two. The results showed that supervised physiotherapy reported output as 94, 86 and 96 respectively in awareness, attitudes and practises, whereas it was 52, 51 and 46 respectively for non-supervised. The findings show that controlled physiotherapy provides improved outcomes and faster recovery time. Non-supervised clients have little ability to implement the practises and are likely to do more harm to themselves than good. It is quite imperative from this research that patients are advised to follow supervised physiotherapy that is highly recommended to them. Therefore, it is advised that patients with osteoarthritic knee joint should undergo a controlled physiotherapy treatment that will have a positive effect on their lives.

Applied Study on Using of GIS Technology for Conservation of the Ottoman Bathroom and Its Urban Surrounding in Qena—Egypt | Chapter 11 | International Research in Environment, Geography and Earth Science Vol. 6

In Qena Region, the Bathroom area suffers from urban, social and economic issues, adversely affecting one of the most prominent Islamic buildings (the Ottoman Bathroom). In the current research, the technique of Geographic Information Systems ( GIS) was selected to determine the current state of the Ottoman Bathroom and its urban surroundings within Qena Region. The urban, economic , and social status of the urban environment of the bathroom was carried out in three categories of the assessment. The spatial database was designed to track and analyse spatial and descriptive data on the surrounding area of the bathroom; the study findings revealed that the residential buildings were heavily damaged. Samples were obtained from various locations in the bathroom, examined with EDX analytical methods by Scanning Electron Microscopy ( SEM) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). Previous studies have shown that there is crystallised salt in the pores of bricks, micro-cracks, and losses in the internal structure of construction materials. The paper concludes that the GIS technique is an effective method for the rehabilitation of the Ottoman Bathroom and the surrounding area, with the need to reuse the bathroom in the same old function in order to maintain, revitalise and benefit it in Qena City's tourism growth. In addition to determining the key roads to enter the region, where the GIS technique is used to determine the boundaries of the macro and micro background of the old Qena city, architecture maps of the region In addition to the construction of databases for the modernization of facilities and the conceptualization of utilities areas to be carried out in the vicinity of the toilet, sewerage, drinking water, power delivery, and communication lines networks.
