Zingiberaceae from Plantation Forests as Food and Beverage Additives: A Review | Chapter 7 | Current Perspectives in Agriculture and Food Science Vol. 6

 Benefits of Zingiberaceae’s plants for the society residing in rural districts are as food/beverage preservatives and for human health. The advantage of the plants that belong to the Zingiberaceae is able to evolve well under the forest stands at open sites. Relevantly, field note that involved 30 respondents in the thicket villages administratively under the regions of Perum Perhutani (united states of america-Owned Forest Undertakings) Units I, II, and III (East Hot beverage made from beans of a tree, Central Java, and West Hot beverage made from beans of a tree, respectively) told that as many as 10 Zingiberaceae species, i.e. Alpinia galanga L. Willd, Amomum cardomomum Willd, Boesenbergia sonorous L. Manst., Curcumma domestica L (kunyit), C. xanthorrhiza Robx, C. heyneana Val. & van Zijp, Etlingera elatior (Jack.) R. M. Sm., Kaemferia galanga L, Zingiber oficinale Rosc, and Z. zerumbet (L) Rosc were earlier used as food/liquor additves consumed by the comminity nearly production woodlands. The additives from Zingiberaceae were categoryzed safe expected consumed as ingedients/dressings, coloring powers, and healthy aroma for meal/beverages. The sophistication of Zingiberaceae to grow in production jungles could bring saving values and positive impacts on the society and environments of result forests. Several ingedients of feed/beverages from Zingiberaceae have been reduced into the contemporary recipes popular as special menu at the Perhutani’s able to be consumed tourism sites and new restaurants. The prospects of Zingiberaceae were able to expand productive business and saving at forest villages as well as to uphold the sustainability/continuity of result forests.
