Prevalence of Rabies Prophylaxis among Medical Officers: A Cross Sectional Study | Chapter 3 | Advanced Concepts in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 7

 This branch discusses about knowledge, stance and practices related to animal bite transmitting rabies, among medical deputy practicing in rural fields of western Maharashtra, India. Rabies is a zoonosis disease created by a virus in the family Rhabdoviridae, type Lyssavirus, known as rabies virus (RV). Rabies is an severe neurological infection in persons and other animals, where dogs transmit 99% of human contamination.One of the important necessities to achieve “Zero Human rabies end of life by 2030” is to build awareness of the Vim and care for unprotected victims.This is cross-sectional study administered with 95 medical officials. In relation to the training meetings that were held and the participants' information, attitude, and practices (KAP) on rabies prophylaxis, a pretested and arranged questionnaire was established. Microsoft Excel 16 was used for dossier entry and analysis. Forecasts of percentages and the relevant statistical tests were acted. The result revealed that majority of the members 91 (95.8%) had positive stance towards conducting health instruction campaign, 89 (93.7%) participants were positive towards directing of the patients and 78 (82.10%) acceptance for intradermal schedule for postexposure precaution. Whereas less than half of the shareholders i.e 45 (47.40%) were willing to execute injection horse antirabies serum at their setup.All sufferers were referred to tertiary care centre for presidency of ARS and 82.10% of participants referred the victims immediately.There was an obvious lack of awareness visualized in rabies prophalaxis and management. Effort bear be taken to emphasize the significance PEP management through normal reorientation programs. The effort should be overthrown by an enemy to emphasize the importance Vim management through consistent reorientation programs and continued medical instruction amongst them.
