Perceptions of Parents on the use of Corporal Punishment in Pre - Primary Institutions in Kenya: A Descriptive Survey Study | Chapter 10 | Research Highlights in Language, Literature and Education Vol. 5

 Though constitutionally banned in Kenyan schools, physical punishment continues to grow. The study sought to investigate a) Pre-school persons’ awareness of physical punishment ban, b) perceptions of persons on the ban of corporal punishment in pre-basic institutions, c) either the level of education of parents had an influence on the use of physical punishment, d) the instances when parents secondhand corporal punishment. A explanatory survey design was employed. The pre-schools were preferred using layered sampling. The pre-schools that made up the sample were preferred using plain random sampling. In order to select the parents of the sampled schools, minor sampling was secondhand. There were 107 parents in the sample. Questionnaires were used to   collect   dossier. The data was resolved utilizing two together qualitative and determinable methods. The study raise that parents were aware of the outlawing of physical, Parents perceived otherwise the outlawing of corporal punishment, the level of instruction of the parents had no influence on the use of physical punishment, and the cited instances when persons used corporal punishment on their toddlers had nothing to do accompanying the academic work. The study decided that corporal punishment was established in the society and by continuation the school through a culture supported by a faith systems of people as political whole. Future research on corporal punishment must devote effort to something not only the ban, but also on tactics, laws and programs that invigorate and support families and communities by forwarding the underlying public factors that admit corporal punishment to shine.
