Automatic Book Rack System with Expandable Clasp Holder: A Short Review | Chapter 14 | Advanced Aspects of Engineering Research Vol. 4

With the number of universities and libraries steadily growing and book storage/maintenance becoming a difficult job, a system that reduces manual work while also minimising the problem of using book racks is needed. The analysis is being carried out in order to locate the current system's weaknesses and to find ways to fix them, such as accessing books at a height, cleaning the shelves in the topmost compartment, and keeping the books upright and in proper place. The automatic book rack system consists of a shelf and a movable, expandable clasp housing that is attached to the shelf. A noiseless electric motor and a pair of chain and sprockets are included in the housing. The electric motor and chain sprockets work together to move the housing along the shelf in a straight line. The expandable clasp will hold the books upright on the shelf in a side-by-side arrangement. When a book is taken off the shelf, the clasp housing is automatically repositioned to bring the remaining books together and close any gaps between them, holding the books upright. The mechanism that permits reliable and efficient repositioning of one or more shelves, thereby increasing utilisation and efficiencies associated with it, is one example of exemplary systems according to the present disclosure. We successfully designed the automatic book rack to complete this mission, and the ABR device was fabricated using appropriate materials.
