Assessment of Vital Water Quality Parameters for Sustainable Future | Chapter 6 | Innovations in Science and Technology: Shaping a Sustainable Future (Vol. 2)

 

Water is an essential natural resource for human consumption, plants, animals, and agricultural and industrial purposes. Due to huge untreated industrial discharge, human activities and excessive use of fertilizers for enhancing crop production, water quality is deteriorating day by day. Unsuitable water quality is creating hazardous health issues for humans, depleting aquatic life and affecting plant growth. So, periodic monitoring of water quality becomes an unforgettable task to check and maintain the standards of water quality set by BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) and WHO (World Health Organization). In this chapter, the suitability of water for various purposes like drinking, irrigation, etc. is described in terms of various physicochemical and bacteriological parameters like DO (Dissolved Oxygen), BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), pH, TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) and EC (Electrical Conductivity), etc. This chapter highlights the need for periodic water quality assessment to ensure a sustainable future for human beings, plants, animals and aquatic life. Parameters required for checking the quality of water and key factors to be remembered while carrying out analysis are also discussed in this chapter.

Enhancing Maritime Safety: Indonesian’s Ship Safety Assessment Strategies | Chapter 2 | Science and Technology: Recent Updates and Future Prospects Vol. 12

Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelago, two-thirds of the country is covered by sea. However, due to many factors, a lot of ship accidents occur every year, causing a large number of casualties. Efforts have been made to improve the safety of domestic sea transportation in order to fully comply with SOLAS regulations. However, the varying sea and cargo conditions, along with low passenger education, increase their vulnerability to accidents. The methods used in this paper were FSA Methods with the use of Ship safety strategy with the Safety Assessment Model. The research was carried out to explore the most appropriate strategy for ensuring the safety of ships operating on Indonesian waters using various methods, where the four most influencing aspects i.e. Software, Hardware, Environment, and Live-ware were put into consideration. The existing conditions and experience learned from the past, backgrounds and sources of accidents/incidents were investigated. Based on the findings feasible strategy is proposed, which will include the design requirements; qualification of personnel, refined rules, and operational efficiency.

Methods of Assessment and Evaluation in Medical Science Education | Chapter 1 | Medicine and Medical Research: New Perspectives Vol. 8

The assessment and evaluation is an essential and important aspect of medical science education. It encourages and motivates students to learn in a better way. A good assessment is key to lifelong learning. Education is the backbone of a nation. During the last two decades, medical education faced a lot of challenges. These challenges are raised by patients, their relatives, healthcare workers and society. After a thorough discussion with experts, solutions come out in the form of the development of a new curriculum, the introduction of new learning methods, and introduction of the new methods of evaluation and assessment. Many innovative methods of teaching, learning, assessment and evaluation are included in medical science. Medical education is based on learner skills and practice. Without practice, a person cannot work in this field. The aim of this paper is to describe the various assessment methods in medical education. There is a huge difference between traditional and modern education. Students of the 21st century are technology-based so teachers must be equipped with technology. Nowadays the word teaching is replaced by term learning. Students having already the entire subject-related material on their computer or mobile. The work of the teacher is to explain the concept. During assessment of teaching, 2 methods are very familiar, which are formative and summative assessment. Formative assessment is carried out by a teacher to find the knowledge of a learner at the end of each chapter or unit. The teacher can also evaluate his classroom or teaching performance after each lecture. A summative assessment is carried out at the end of the semester or year to evaluate the overall performance of a candidate. It is also known as term examination or cumulative examination. Nowadays, many new methods are available for teaching in medical education like demonstration and simulation. Every teacher must be thorough with methods of assessment and evaluation.

Conclusion:  It can be concluded from the literature that planning for effective faculty development programs is required. These programs are to be tailored to teachers' needs about their ability to guide students’ learning. Clinical simulation, online webinars, panel discussions, symposiums and objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) are new methods used for assessment of students.

Impact of the Graduate Major Field Test in Business: Jacksonville University | Chapter 1 | Business, Management and Economics: Research Progress Vol. 7

This is a follow-up article that addresses the findings of an earlier article on the analysis of the Graduate Major Field Test in Business at Jacksonville University in 2012 [1]. The Graduate Major Field Tests in Business (GMFT-B) is an evaluation tool for MBA students given nationally by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Princeton NJ. This test is administered to over 400 MBA programs in major Universities in the United States for the purpose of measuring student academic achievement and growth, as well as to assess educational outcomes in business. At Jacksonville University (JU) the test is given in the last class of the MBA program known as the capstone course, Business Strategy and Policy. This course accounts for ten percent of their grade in MGT 545, the Business Strategy and Policy course. A total of six years of data (2006 to 2011) was collected for analysis in the initial article by Arbogast and Thornton, professors in the graduate JU program. These scores were important for accreditation by the Association for the Advancement of Colleges and Schools of Business (AACSB). AACSB uses these scores to determine the standing of a business college compared to other peer and aspirational business colleges in the United States. At JU the following MBA programs are evaluated: the Executive MBA, evening MBA (also known as flex MBA) and daytime (accelerated) MBA classes. This article updates the initial findings of JU’s graduate programs. In summary, from 2018 to 2024 both JU MBA Programs continued to fare well with scores in the mid-250 range and well above the national average of 248 (out of 300). The Executive MBA student grades were even higher with an average of 264 over the same period of time.

Assessment Scale for Tic Disorders in Children | Chapter 3 | Disease and Health: Research Developments Vol. 4

Background: Tic disorders can cause damage to children's learning, daily life, and social function. The severity of the damage is usually evaluated quantitatively using standardized scales.

Objective: The objective of the study is to understand the main methods used in the screening and diagnosis of childhood tic disorders (CTD), with a focus on the content and psychometric properties of commonly used scales. On this basis, the application and prospects of scales are proposed.

Methods: The literature retrieval method was used to search Empirical papers published in English or Chinese in the past 35 years from Pubmed, Google Scholar, CNKI and Wanfang databases.

Results: Thirty-one articles were included. CTD assessment scales are divided into diagnostic and screening scales. The Yale Global Tic Severity Scale (YGTSS) is the most commonly used diagnostic scale and can be considered the gold standard for CTD assessment.

Conclusion: The development of CTD assessment scales is becoming increasingly in-depth and widely used, making them an effective tool for CTD diagnosis and screening. The combination of scale assessment and instrumental detection such as electroencephalography is the direction of CTD diagnosis.

Insights into Basketball Player Conditioning: Analyzing Pre-season Training's Impact on Physiological and Biochemical Indices- A Systematic Review | Chapter 3 | Contemporary Perspective on Science, Technology and Research Vol. 4

Basketball is one of the most popular team sports in the world, and many sport scientists are intensely studying many different aspects and factors that affect or explain players’ performance in this specific sport. The pre-season period in basketball includes all the physiological attributes that the players need to work on and develop, in order to sustain a full season workload. The monitoring of the effectiveness of pre-season training is based on a variety of biochemical and physiological indices; however, it is still unclear how pre-season training affects those markers. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the effects of pre-season training on biochemical and physiological markers. A search was performed in five large scientific databases (Pubmed (Medline), Scopus, Science-Direct, Sport- Discus (EBSCO), Semantic Scholar) and produced 7081 results, which after removing duplicates and applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulted in 28 published scientific articles being included in this review. The most important findings suggested that the majority of the studies used a 6- or an 8-week pre-season training protocol, because these protocols have shown significant positive effects over the years. In addition, the plyometric training protocols that were used by many studies have been found to be beneficial for basketball athletes for many physiological parameters. Furthermore, the evaluation of biochemical markers can be a very useful tool in monitoring and managing fatigue, which is an essential part of modifying the training process, in order to maximize performance. Conclusively, our research tried to help the community around the sport of basketball, by demonstrating some new perspectives and providing some scientific insights about basketball player conditioning.

A Guide for Quick Assessment and Management of Subacromial Impingement Syndrome | Chapter 3 | Advanced Concepts in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 12

 Subacromial Impingement Syndrome (SAIS) indicates a wide range of pathology varying from subacromial bursitis to rotator cuff wear and tear. It is one of the commonest causes of 45 to 65 % of the shoulder pain syndromes, still many times it is misdiagnosed as frozen shoulder as some of its symptoms overlap. It occurs mainly due to impingement of the structures beneath the acromion process due to narrowing of the subacromial space. The narrowing can occur due to extrinsic compression or intrinsic compression. Abnormal biomechanics which includes tight pectoralis major and minor, weak scapular stabilizers, congenital change in the shape of acromion process, etc. are one of the major causes of SAIS. And understanding its root cause will be very helpful in the diagnosis and management. Hence, this article provides a brief overview for quick clinical assessment and management of SAIS based upon the pathomechanics of SAIS.

Designing OBE Internal Test Question Paper with Alignment of Instruction, Assessment, and Evaluation | Chapter 5 | Handbook of Outcome-Based Education Model (OBE): Best Practices and Formats for OBE Implementation in Technical Higher Education Programs

 Designing a suitable assessment tool to identify and analyze learners’ misconceptions, trace learning gaps, report learning levels, evaluate students' performance, and focus on slow and fast learners as well as reinforce teaching and learning processes is a continuous quality improvement process. An aligned appropriate tool can provide realistic information about the learning's reliability and validity. In this connection, the Course coordinator and question paper scrutinizing committee play a significant role. Designing a Typical Course File for Planning and Documenting the Evidence of OBE Implementation of Theory Courses | Chapter 2 | Handbook of Outcome-Based Education Model (OBE): Best Practices and Formats for OBE Implementation in Technical Higher Education Programs

 Even though Outcome-Based Education (OBE) is an optimistic framework to offer quality education by institutions and universities, the success of the OBE model depends on how the curriculum design and delivery bridges academia and industry with contemporary knowledge, skills, and attitude and enables the graduates to contribute to innovation, develop entrepreneurial skills and reach the society with professional ethics. Undoubtedly, Universities always play the role of transforming students. In this direction, the OBE program needs to be built primarily on curriculum design with effective teaching-learning processes involving key stakeholders so that graduates acquire the required attributes and skills at the end of the program. The execution of the curriculum has to be planned in terms of the units of the curriculum called the courses that are to be implemented with proper design, delivery, assessment, evaluation, reinforcement of Teaching/Learning Processes (TLP), and continuous improvement to attain clearly stated outcomes.

This chapter presents the typical template for fine-tuning the course design that serves as a course file to document the blueprint of the process of instruction, assessment, and evaluation within the framework of the OBE and how the expected outcomes are met.

In other words, this Chapter is an attempt to design a typical course file format in line with the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) that consists of several documents required for the implementation of OBE at the course level including the evidence for cooperative/innovative methods implemented, performance analysis and remedial inputs, OBE CO attainment report, and other essentials.

Auditory Skill Development Among Infants | Chapter 13 | Current Progress in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 8

Phenoplastic Potentials of Cocoyam Species Exposed to Selected Environmental Stressors | Chapter 8 | Progress in Chemical Science Research Vol. 8

Investigating the Effects of Problem Solving Approach on Academic Achievement of Basic Science and Technology Students in Nasarawa State, Nigeria| Chapter 5 | Current Research in Language, Literature and Education Vol.8

 This study examined the impact of critical thinking approach on the presentation of Basic Science and Technology understudies in Nasarawa State. A Treatment to Enhance Social Reading Capabilities in a Gifted Child with Autism Spectrum Disorder | Chapter 08 | New Horizons in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 7

 Social cognitive problems have been found in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The goal of this clinical case study was to describe the social cognition evaluation and treatment of SC (9 years old), a talented child with ASD and a high verbal IQ (146). The treatment's goals were to increase the child's ability to decode social behaviour and to strengthen his mentalistic reasoning. Theory of mind, emotion perception, and pragmatic abilities were all evaluated, and deficiencies were discovered in each. During the four-month treatment, which was divided into 14 sessions, SC's ability to notice emotions and comprehend mental states was to be improved. The main method of the intervention was "social reading" with video snippets. The first assessment was repeated in a follow-up session after the treatment. The social cognition assessments improved at the end of the treatment and during the follow-up. The results of this case study suggest that "social reading" could be a valuable method for children with high-functioning ASD, especially gifted youngsters.

Study on Direction for Action on Assessment of Undergraduate Long Vacation Training (LVT) Students’ Research Projects | Chapter 1 | Modern Perspectives in Language, Literature and Education Vol. 10



A check list of six concepts was used to analyse the content of undergraduate LVT students' research projects: research objectives, research questions/hypotheses, research design, data collecting equipment, and data analysis and presentation strategies. The research projects of 115 undergraduate LVT students in the last year of the 2009/2010 academic session were included in the study (75 from the department of Vocational and Technology Education, VTE, and 40 from the department of Science Education, Sci. Edu.). A total of 86 research proposals (56 VTE and 30 Sc.Edu) were chosen and reviewed proportionately. According to the survey, just 37.20 percent of undergraduate LVT students at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi, Nigeria, used the correct data analysis technique on their research assignment. Orientation lecturers on research ideas were among the study's suggestions, as were similar investigations to validate the conclusions or otherwise of this investigation. Furthermore, the article was revised to provide an analysis of the study's findings as well as recommendations for action based on the topic (Assessment of undergraduate LVT students' research projects). The study aimed to provide insight or guidance to undergraduate students, research project supervisors, and members of the academic community who are interested in research work for appropriate methods in writing some aspects of research proposals (such as the relationship between the topic and the study's objectives) and the use of accurate research statistics tools for data analysis.

Study on the Performance Evaluation of Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) in Federal Polytechnic Offa, Nigeria | Chapter 6 | Modern Perspectives in Language, Literature and Education Vol. 10



The Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a skills and training preparatory programme designed to expose students from higher education institutions to real-world experiences. The quality of students' industrial work experience and the high rate of graduate unemployment constitute a severe threat to institutions, societies, and the environment as a whole. The performance of the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme at Federal Polytechnic Offa, Nigeria, was investigated. The following objectives were addressed in order to achieve the study's goal: evaluate the level of performance of students from various participating departments in the Federal Polytechnic Offa's SIWES programme, evaluate the average performance of students in the SIWES programme across all participating departments in Federal Polytechnic Offa, and evaluate the differences between the SIWES scores of various participating departments within the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Nigeria between The study used a quantitative method, with data collected from National Diploma Students from the seventeen (17) participating departments over a five-year period (2014-2018). The data was analysed using inferential statistics such as Two-Way Analysis of Variance and simple descriptive statistical models. The survey discovered a declining trend in student performance. The p-values of the mean student scores in each department were 0.002, and the mean student scores on an annual basis were 0.016, all of which were less than 0.05. The null hypothesis is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis is accepted: there is a substantial difference between students' departmental and annual SIWES scores. The difference is between all departments, according to the Least Significant Difference (LSD) post hoc test. The study suggested creating a data pool of suitable training institutions and developing technologies for effective student placement in order to promote skill acquisition and employability.

Pandemic Preparedness and What have We Really Learned from COVID-19 So Far? | Chapter 12 | Issues and Development in Health Research Vol. 5

Background: The second year of the COVID-19 epidemic has demonstrated that present systems are severely challenged by the complexity and intersectoral effects around the world. Quick fixes and problem-solving in a fractioned, comparative manner are no longer viable options. Even Nevertheless, there appears to be a belief that repeating the same actions will yield different consequences.

The goal of this session is to go over some of the best practises, lessons learned, and progress made in some of the evaluations. At the same time, this is an opportunity to recognise the progress made so far in Pandemic Preparedness while also highlighting the possibility of considering an alternative, system theory approach - David Gershon's concept of social transformation 2.0.

Findings: As the pandemic advances through different stages, the level of complexity for sectors, systems, and governments around the world is unparalleled. Several documents have been compiled to guarantee that progress is achieved in this area. More assessments to identify best practises and gaps are planned to aid governments in their efforts to ensure the safety of their citizens and contribute to global health security. Apart from certain categories being the same or similar, a rising number of instruments are being developed to assist governments in keeping track of current pandemic preparedness measures. The assessment reports revealed that each evaluation had its own set of indications and functions. While the focus was on finding gaps, there is limited information on the progress made and potential overlaps. Nonetheless, there is a lot of good purpose behind these assessments, as well as a significant amount of labour and resources. Interoperability, or connecting the dots, appeared to be supplanted by intersectional activism, in which diverse entities must leave a mark with single-sided solutions rather than a collaborative (behavior-driven), systematic, comprehensive, and integrated approach in the form of integrated programmes.

Conclusion: Everyone involved in pandemic preparedness and management, particularly frontline personnel, deserves credit for their tremendous efforts. Fractioned approaches continue to emerge from various evaluations' best practises and lessons learned, and they certainly suggest a mindset shift away from the concept that insufficient structures and processes may serve as a strong basis. Identifying gaps isn't enough anymore. Pandemic preparedness is suggested to be an element of systems theory, namely the concept of social transformation 2.0.

Describing the Alignment of Course Assessment with the Blended-Learning Teaching Approach for a First Year Material Science Course | Chapter 2 | Modern Perspectives in Language, Literature and Education Vol. 8

 Material science, one of the core courses with a significant workload, is feared by first-year mechanical engineering students. The capacity to apply sophisticated materials science to the proper selection of engineering materials cannot be measured in a single final test. In order to work in the blended-learning course, peer-to-peer lecture film enabled inverted classroom scenarios were built. The Moodle course's unique architecture allows students to earn micro-grades over time by participating in a variety of activities such as tests, lectures, presentations, forum discussions, written homework, and glossary entries. The overall course grade is then calculated by adding the micro grades. Improved learning outcomes can be shown in high-quality class discussions and, most importantly for students, slightly improved scores in some cohorts when compared to those tested solely by a final exam (average C+). The study's goal is to show one viable teaching pathway for aligning the course structure and graded activities to the targeted learning outcome - both of which are critical aspects in improving learning outcomes.

 Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a multifaceted disorder that manifests itself in a variety of behaviours and symptoms. ASD can manifest itself in a variety of ways across the social, emotional, cognitive, and language domains, with varying degrees of severity and impact over the lifespan. While there is no one-size-fits-all approach to eradicating ASD, there are a slew of effective and helpful treatment options available to alleviate the disorder's distinctive clinical symptoms. The importance of focusing on and developing the diverse neurobiological features is discussed.
