Yoga is a mind-body practice with origins in ancient Indian philosophy 2000-4000 years ago. Now, it is accepted as a healthy form of scientific exercise worldwide. Yoga is derived from a Sanskrit word “Yuj” which means “Union” between body, mind and soul. It combines physical exercises, breathing exercises, and mental exercises. Yoga is a journey towards perfection, or union with the divine through self realization. It is a holistic way of life leading to a state of complete physical, social, mental, and spiritual well-being. Many studies have been done and found yoga therapy to be beneficial for management of various diseases like mental stress, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, low backache, cancer and many more. Taking into account so many therapeutic benefits of regular yoga practice in different ailments, it is now practiced by health care professionals along with modern medicine to prevent, reduce or alleviate structural, physiological, emotional and spiritual pain and suffering. It is a old-new way to healthy life and hence world peace.
