Evaluating the Performance of Hybrid Network in Fractional Frequency Reuse and Femtocell Power Control Schemes | Chapter 2 | Emerging Trends in Engineering Research and Technology Vol. 11

The Fractional Frequency Reuse (FFR) method incorporates the advantages of Universal Frequency Reuse and Factor for Frequency Reuse (FRF) 3. The system of universal frequency reuse has high spectral efficiency, whereas the FRF=3 system is typically used in a cellular system to minimise Intercell Interference (ICI). The growth of wireless technology, however does not end here. The Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) trend is still looking forward to more penetration with better coverage, greater power, and greater efficiency of the spectrum. In terms of cost-effectiveness, coverage and capacity enhancement within the hybrid network, Femtocell is a promising choice. In addition, the physical size of Femtocell enables it to be deployed in the "Died zone" and to increase the efficiency of the cell-edge user. This paper assesses hybrid network efficiency with three separate networks, universal FRF, FFR system and FFR with power control scheme for Femtocell. The performance is measured on the basis of SINR encountered by Macrocell and Femtocell users. The ultimate objective of the research is to evaluate the performance of the hybrid network and further decrease the impact of Femtocells' interference. The result shows that the SINR of the Macrocell cell edge consumer is improved by both FFR and power control systems. The result of the simulation shows that the Femtocell power control system increases the Macrocell user's SINR by approximately 5.9 dB at 636 metres away from the Macrocell core (a distance near the Macrocell inner region) and 40 metres away from Femtocell (Femtocell radius). A foundation analysis has been done for future projects in this article. The future research that can be done later is to investigate the network output of randomly distributed users of Femtocells and Macrocell.
