Lablab bean in Indonesia is identified as a local legume. This plant has not been utilized optimally but is generally used as a vegetable (from the young pod). In fact, Lablab bean has great potential as a substitute for soybean in manufacturing tempeh (fermented soybean food product), a kind of food source of vegetable protein. This is because its protein content is quite high (which reaches an average of 29.20%) and other nutritional content is quite complete, even equivalent to its content in soybean. Lablab bean is included in “pulses” which function as “functional food” which in the future will be increasingly needed by the community. Thus, it is very ideal to be proposed that the lablab bean is called a "crop and superfood”. More than that, Lablab beans also have the potential to be developed as an ingredient for the pharmaceutical industry (non-food industry). In Indonesia, this potential has not been developed.
This book comprehensively discusses Lablab beans in
Indonesia, consisting of Introduction (Chapter 1), Classification and
characteristics of Lablab beans (Chapter 2), Nutrition value and utilization of
Lablab beans in Indonesia (Chapter 3), Cultivation techniques for Lablab beans
(Chapter 4), Prospect for the development of Lablab bean (Chapter 5), and the
conclusion (Chapter 6). This book is worthy of reading and understanding by
practitioners, students, lecturers, and policymakers.
