Pre-Articular and Explosive form of Rheumetoid Arthritis in a Mongel Dog | Chapter 10 | Innovations in Biological Science Vol. 4

A case of an active-explosive form of Rheumatoid arthritis with poly-arthritis was presented in a mongrel male dog. The same was brought six months back with a pre-articular/ subclinical form with predominate signs of anemia but no lameness. On the basis of its past and present history, clinical examination and hematology, it was diagnosed as a case of flare of active and explosive form of Rheumatoid arthritis. Its etiology, pathology, management and treatment with DMARDs and corticosteroids were discussed.

Mathematical Modeling of CTLs Dynamics in HIV Antiretro Viral Therapy Interms of Lotka-Volterra Model | Chapter 13 | Science and Technology: Recent Updates and Future Prospects Vol. 11

 

The CTLs dynamics associated with antiretroviral therapy for HIV infection is mathematically modeled as Lotka-Volteterra two species food chain model. Using Painleve property analysis confirmed the stable deterministic nonlinear oscillation dynamics of CTLs. The analogy of Lotka-Volterra system and LCR electrical network system is used to confirm the stability of CTLs oscillation dynamics and found mathematical expression for the radial frequency of that oscillation and its depends on proliferation rate of CD4+T cells. Results are compared with earlier studies. It is found that Antiretroviral therapy with a combination drugs and IL-7 has very little chance of stopping the oscillation of CTL dynamics due to very high nonlinear stability of the dynamics.

Effect of Churches Proliferation on Residential Rental Values in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria | Chapter 6 | New Ideas Concerning Arts and Social Studies Vol. 2

In developed countries, effective urban planning and zoning regulations have ensured compatibility between residential land uses and churches. Such regulations help balance the needs of religious institutions with those of residential communities, reducing potential conflicts. Unfortunately, in developing countries, planning regulations are less stringent, and there are a lot of conflicts between residential areas and churches proliferation. This study investigated the effect of churches proliferation in residential neighborhoods on residential property values in Uyo.  A survey research design in which data were collected from 600 residential properties located around 30 churches in Uyo was adopted. Data were collected on the distance between churches and residential properties, and the noise level from the activities of the churches. Data on other extrinsic and intrinsic factors affecting property values were also collected. The data collected were analyzed using the multiple regression analysis technique with the help of SPSS. The result of the analysis revealed that noise pollution from churches reduced property values by N771.49 per decibel, while proximity of the churches to residential properties reduced the property values by N316.94 per meter. The study concluded that churches proliferation in residential neighborhoods negatively affects residential property values. The implication of this is that if the rate of proliferation of churches in residential neighborhoods is not controlled, real estate investors may be discouraged as their property values continue to decline. Further, the study recommends that urban planners should apply stringent measures to control the proliferation of churches, and regulations are needed to control noise pollution, especially from churches.

Transcriptomic Overview of Comparative Multi-Scale Biocompatibility of ZrO2 and Y-TZP Alloys | Chapter 2 | Chemical and Materials Sciences - Developments and Innovations Vol. 2

 

The present study assesses the biocompatibility of pure zirconia discs ZrO2 compared to yttria–zirconia discs (Y-TZP) as well as the influence of the surface topography through the combination of a conventional toxicological assay, morphological observations, and a transcriptomic analysis on an in vitro model of human Saos-2 bone cells. The direct anatomical and functional bond between the surface of an implant and living neoformed bone is known as the osseointegration of implants. Implants' biological compatibility is contingent upon a number of factors, including surface topography, chemical composition, material type, and mechanobiological characteristics. Similar cell proliferation rates were observed between ZrO2 and Y-TZP discs and control cells, independent of surface topography, for up to 96 hours of exposure. High cell density was similarly observed on the surfaces of both materials. It could be interesting to perform a comparative transcriptomic study between rough and mirror-polished Y-TZP samples to observe a potential influence of the surface topography on the gene expression and to better understand the underlying mechanisms. Relevantly, only 110 transcripts were differentially expressed across the human transcriptome, consistent with the excellent biocompatibility of Y-TZP reported in the literature. These deregulated transcripts are mainly involved in two known metabolic pathways, the first being linked to 'mineral absorption' and the second to 'immune response'. These observations suggest that Y-TZP is an interesting candidate for application in implantology. Y-TZP is a serious candidate for implantology in general. However, further biocompatibility and biomechanical studies are needed to position Y-TZP as a reference material in oral implantology and to find the best roughness level for this material.

New Bioengineering Strategies Based on Tissue-Specific Extracellular Matrices to Improve Human Endometrial Organoid Models | Chapter 9 | New Horizons in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 11

 Multicellular, three-dimensional (3D) tissue models called organoids closely mimic in vivo tissue. Exact pre-clinical models of the human uterine endometrium are being used to conduct new studies of this vital tissue in response to the recent emergence of 3D structures from basic endometrial cells. We aimed to assess ECM hydrogels produced from decellularized pig endometrium (EndoECM) in producing and upgrading current human endometrial organoid culture systems in order to enhance these 3D models. To do this, we developed three lines of human endometrial organoids and expanded them under ideal and unfavourable circumstances while adding or omitting the soluble supplement EndoECM (0.1 mg/mL). The resultant organoids' epithelial genesis, long-term chromosomal stability, and stemness characteristics were all validated. Finally, we calculated their proliferative capacity under various culture conditions using proliferation rates and immunohistochemical methods. Our results show the importance of a bioactive environment for the upkeep and development of human endometrial organoids.

Response of T98G Glioblastoma Cells Line to Wortmannin and Platelet-derived Growth Factor| Chapter 4 | New Visions in Biological Science Vol.10

 Two well-known factors, platelet derived growth factor (PDGF) and wortmannin, have been employed to evaluate the response of several types of cancer cells. Both are linked to phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) expression and activity, as well as its impact on tumour cells. In both normal and pathological settings, the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K) and PDGF signalling pathways are critical for many aspects of cell growth and survival. T98G glioblastoma cells are being studied to see what impacts they have and how they respond. proven that cells treated with platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and/or wortmannin, a PI3 kinase inhibitor, proliferated at predicted rates when compared to cells not treated. Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) supplemented cells multiplied thirty percent quicker than spontaneously developing cells. Cells given only wortmannin divided almost 40% slower than cells given no dose, as expected. Furthermore, in T98G glioblastoma cells transfected with a luciferase reporter vector containing consensus sequences of the nuclear factors NF-KB and AP-1, wortmannin treatment partially blocked the activation and expression of the NF-KB luciferase, while the activation and expression of the AP-1 reporter vector was clearly increased. PDFG treatment, on the other hand, did not show any influence of wortmannin on the expression of the NF-KB reporter vector. Our findings suggest that Wortmannin and PDGF have distinct roles in the control and expression of Phosphoinositide 3-kinase, as well as the regulation of several nuclear factors.
