Two models recently used to explain electronic transport in polymer fibers/nanotubes and carbon nanotubes, including graphene nanoribbons, are investigated and compared, namely, variable range hopping (VRH) in various versions and their modifications on the one side and phononon-assisted tunnelling (PhAT) induced electric field on the other. The VRH model is primarily accepted on behalf of the temperature dependency performance. However, in the context of this model, the field dependencies of conductivity remain essentially unknown. The PhAT model, at the same time, explains Not only the conductivity dependence of the temperature measured in a wide temperature range, but also the conductivity/current dependency of the field strength using the same set of parameters that define the materials. In a broad range of organic and inorganic devices, the presented PhAT theoretical approach offers a deeper insight into the physical context of charge transport across barriers.
