The angles of the moiré patterns are measured experimentally. We observed two kinds of clustering in the parameter space. In rational cells (LCD pixels), the moiré patterns appear at a few discrete angles. We estimate the experimental probability of the moiré effect as a function of an angle; a theoretical function (node spacing) is based on the distance between nodes. We consider the clustering and probability from the common point of view. The connection between the probability of the moiré effect, the Thomae's function, and other functions is found. The proposed approach is helpful for the context-independent minimization of the moiré effect in autostereoscopic 3D displays.
