Dental medicine is advancing at an exceptionally fast rate, one of its main reasons being integration of digital technologies. Intra oral scanners are now recently gained a lot of importance in dental field. The existing intraoral scanners use different scanning strategies in order to obtain higher accuracy. Here our aim is to gain knowledge and evaluate the effectiveness of different scanning strategies of intraoral scanners. Different scanning strategies of intraoral scanners are evaluated which includes 1)Accordion fringe interferometry 2 )Confocal laser scanning microscopy 3)Active wave front sampling 4) Optical coherence Tomography. Also there are other conventional techniques such as active and passive sterotriangulation. On evaluating the different methodologies, intraoral scanners using confocal laser scanning has a upper hand compared to other due to their elimination of out -of -focus points, blur-free, high resolution images. Present Intraoral scanners using this strategies are Trisos(3 shape), 3D progress and CS3500.
