Experiments Using Database Management System to Develop and Implement an Automated Motor Vehicle Management System | Chapter 6 | Recent Advances in Science and Technology Research Vol. 7

 A system designed to control the movement of vehicles in and out of an enterprise is an automated motor vehicle management system. Presently, in most organisations, vehicle movements are handled manually by security officials stationed at the gates. In certain cases, this method is correlated with mismanaged data, incomplete data or no data at all. Consequently, in order to deal with cases of fraud, careful tracking of people and vehicles and to provide accurate information for decision-making, it is important to build a computerised system to handle data taken from the vast number of vehicles that travel in and out of organisations. This study was aimed at introducing a method of motor vehicle movement control and was a valuable starting point for record management at the main gate of Joseph Ayo Babalola University. The proposed scheme is based on a window Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0.0. is a software application developed for Microsoft Access as a database management system in a visual studio environment. It was tested over a span of two months with data collected and it was able to enhance the organization's performance, protection and professional appearance.

Investigation on the Thickness Effect on the Structural and Optical Properties of ZnO Thin Films Prepared by Thermal Evaporation Technique | Chapter 10 | Recent Advances in Science and Technology Research Vol. 7

 The physiological and biochemical parameters of bougainvillaea as well as many ornamental plants can be controlled by triacontanol (TRIA), a plant growth regulator contained in epicuticular waxes. Many researchers have recorded that treatment with TRIA improves growth, yield, protein synthesis, photosynthesis, absorption of water and nutrients, fixation of nitrogen, activity of enzymes and free amino acid content, soluble protein, sugar reduction and biochemical constituents in different crops. The increase in dry matter production mediated by TRIA may influence the interrelationship between primary and secondary metabolism, leading to increased secondary product biosynthesis. There is clear evidence in several studies that the application of TRIA to either the root medium or leaves improved the growth and yield of vegetables and other crops, including agronomic and horticultural crops, as well as medicinal and aromatic crops, under usual and unfavourable conditions. TRIA therapies boost advanced flowering, With TRIA therapies. In Bougainvillea plants, TRIA raises the levels of N, P and K, total soluble solids (TSS), and sugar and protein content. In addition, in the treatment with TRIA, more flowers, increased bract weight, increased longevity and less leaf abscission are noticed. With TRIA treatments, the phenol and flavonoid material, sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS) and antioxidant activities are also markedly increased. TRIA treatment, however, decreases the yield of treated plants for ethylene production. Positive correlations between leaf TSS and flowering time and flower number, between the content of leaf sugar and bract weight, and between net photosynthesis and bract growth and the development of dry matter are observed. It can be concluded that TRIA's foliar spray stimulates growth, improves flowering and improves the quality of Bougainvillea potted plants. The present review covers TRIA's main role in plant growth and development, its mode of action and its importance in enhancing plant growth and development. Ornamental crop production and quality.

Investigating the Effects of Variability in Pozzolanic Properties of Rice Husk Ash on Compressive Strength of Concrete | Chapter 4 | Recent Advances in Science and Technology Research Vol. 7

 Rice husk ash (RHA) is an agro waste and a natural pozzolana that is silica-rich and globally found in abundance. This thesis examined the RHA pozzolanic properties from seven different sources in Nigeria (Ogoja, Abakaliki, Adani, Adikpo, Obubra, Makurdi and Vandikya). The elementary chemical composition of this natural pozzolan is found to differ depending on its location. Samples from Ogoja, followed by Abakaliki, Adani, Adikpo, Obubra, Makurdi and Vandikya, were identified to have the highest pozzolanic properties. Their silica content was found to be 84.55%, 76.3%, 70.12%, 70.11%, 64.67 percent, 55.55 percent, and 48.4 percent respectively. As partial substitutes for ordinary Portland cement, four of the seven samples with the highest pozzolanic values were used at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 percent replacement levels. The concrete mix ratio of 1:1.5:3 was adopted and the compressive strength values were found to be in the range of 37-42N/mm2 at 5% RHA, 35-39.5N/mm2 at 10% RHA, 30-34.5N/mm2 at 28 days at 5% RHA, 35-39.5N/mm2 at 10% RHA, 30-34.5N/mm2 Compared to the monitored sample, with a strength value of 15 percent RHA, 27-29N/mm2 at 20 percent RHA, 22-25.6N/mm2 at 25 percent RHA and 21-24N/mm2 at 30 percent RHA   42.64N/mm2. A Thorough Discussion on Social Aspects of Engineering | Chapter 3 | Recent Advances in Science and Technology Research Vol. 7

 The chapter explores the interactions and connections between the extended profession of engineering and other intangible aspects of human society. While explaining how simple human needs, which engineers once used to fulfil, were transformed into a world of almost limitless wants and desires in the 21st century, the author highlights the new challenges facing engineering today. The drive to write this chapter stems from reading the work of Nagib Callaos on "Engineering and Mete-Engineering." One consequence of this shift in expectations affects the design, planning and development of products and services that should fulfil vague desires and fuzzy ideas. They vary totally from the previous tasks and mission of engineering in this way. Therefore, future engineering should be more emotional and inclined to include touchy topics, intangible and moral considerations. Engineering can therefore be viewed as a blend of science and art.

Generic Scheduling by an Optimization Model Demonstrated for a Partly Automated Production Line | Chapter 2 | Recent Advances in Science and Technology Research Vol. 7

 Companies also use manufacturing processes that are specially built and change them from time to time. Such production systems, therefore have special technical limitations. In order to meet particular requirements with the least tardiness, they create small batches. This imposes high expectations on algorithms for high performance scheduling that can be easily adapted to changes in the production system. This paper proposes a common approach as a solution: solutions were obtained using a commonly used commercially available method for solving linear optimization models, which is available or can be linked to an Enterprise Resource Planning System (e.g. in the SAP system). This method is successfully used on a regular personal computer in a real-world application of a flow store with special limitations. The key assumption, therefore, is that the best solution could be optimal scheduling with a commercially available method.

House Hold Actual Average Power Consumption with New Prepaid Meter Tariff - An Incident from Distribution Companies | Chapter 1 | Recent Advances in Science and Technology Research Vol. 7

 The lack of real power usage data in the average household apartment has sometimes led many Nigerian electricity consumers to disagree with their service providers. Prepaid metres have many applications in Nigeria for producing, transmitting and distributing electricity. This makes their actual calculation of power an important problem. In this work, the actual power usage of each load was calculated and used to study the time each load would use when it is continuously connected to the power supply to consume 30.8 EEDC units. The analytical approach was used to analyse the date obtained with respect to time for various appliance consumption rates. This experiment was carried out in a flat situated in the eastern part of Nigeria's state of Enugu. In order to determine the current and voltages across them, each load was tested. Real The Actual Each load's power consumption was estimated. The period has been estimated for each actual power to consume 30.8 units entirely. The corresponding amount of the actual consumption of each load was measured in Naira per day. The findings show that it would take longer time for the phone and lighting points (18421.05 and 5589.8 hours) to drain the 30.8 units and also have the least cost of usage per day. While the 30.8 units can take 8.95 hours to drain the electric pressing iron, and they have the highest cost. By combining these loads optimally, it will make economic sense for prepaid metre subscribers, and customers will enjoy their cash with ease and comfort.

Theoretical Study of Behavior of Ground Anchor in Frictional Soil by the Use of the Kinematic Approach of Limit Analysis | Chapter 5 | Recent Advances in Science and Technology Research Vol. 7

 This paper presents the results of the theoretical study based on the kinematic method of the limit analysis for the production of the cohesionless soil (sand) failure mechanism around a single one; inclined soil anchor at tension time; and for the estimate of the limit load in the case of the Mohr-Coulomb criterion and the related flow law, taking into account the mobilisation of soil. On the collapse load, the impact of the inclination and length of the ground anchor, the friction angle of the soil (almost) and the dry density were examined. Through this analysis, the findings obtained by the theoretical approach were found to be greater than those obtained by the empirical approach (the recommendations T.A. 95).
