Organic Food Wastes as Natural Fertilizers | Chapter 6 | Cutting-edge Research in Agricultural Sciences Vol.1

Aim: This study is designed to check that whether or not the organic waste produced in our home can

be used as a natural fertilizer and if composting is a feasible way to do it.
Methodology: This study focused on the use of fruit peels (sweet lime and banana) generated at
home as a natural fertilizer and backyard composting method. Mint saplings and coriander seeds
were used to check the efficacy of fruit peels.
Result and Discussion: Several parameter like soil pH, nutrient levels, plant length and plant growth
were checked. The soil formulation containing a combination of fruit peels gave the best results. Soil
sample containing chemical fertilizer was used as a control.
Conclusion: The study indicated that not only fruit peels can be used as a fertilizer but it gives better
results as well as does not harm the environment as compared to chemical fertilizer.
