Comparative Study and Interrelationship of the Physical and Mechanical Properties of Coarse Aggregates Produced in Ogun State |Chapter 8 | Emerging Trends in Engineering Research and Technology Vol. 5

 

This study compares and investigates the relationship between the physical and mechanical properties of granites produced in some parts of Ogun State. Granite Samples were tested for their Specific Gravities, Water Absorptions, Moisture Contents, Aggregates Impact Value and Aggregates Crushing Value in accordance to the relevant standards. Test results were compared with relevant standards and with values from various sites. Regression analysis was used to further determine the relationship between the various properties. Results reveals that although all the samples conform to relevant codes and standards there were variations in test results from one location to the other and between the various sizes obtained from the same location. Statistical analysis reveals that there is significant positive correlation between Moisture Content and Water Absorption, no relationship between Specific Gravity and both Moisture Content and Water Absorption, while the relationship between Aggregate Crushing and Impact value is positive but not significant.

Technological Process of Obtaining Sunflower Oil | Chapter 5 | Current Approaches in Engineering Research and Technology Vol. 9

This chapter includes the main properties of olive oil, the types of sunflower from which the oil is extracted, as well as the technological scheme for obtaining refined sunflower oil. The nutritional function of sunflower oil is enhanced by the presence of provitamins A, D, and E, phosphatides as well as vitamins B4, B8, and K, they also contain sterol and tocopherols. Energy capacity: 8.8 cal/g oil. It is excellent for food because it has fluidity, color, taste and a pleasant smell. The technological process of obtaining sunflower oil includes the following main operations: reception of raw materials, storage of raw materials, cleaning of sunflower seeds, drying of oleaginous raw materials, peeling, grinding, frying, hydrothermal treatment and pressing, extraction with solvents and solvent recovery, refining of crude press oil and extractives, storage and packaging.

Comprehensive Study on Microstructure and Strength of Graphite-molybdenum Brazed Joints | Chapter 1 | Chemical and Materials Sciences: Research Findings Vol. 2

Production of permanent joints of high-temperature materials, molybdenum and graphite, by brazing is very important for many branches of industry related to structural operation at high temperatures. By selecting a brazing filler metal for joining dissimilar materials, several critical factors must be considered, including chemical composition, melting point, thermal expansion coefficients, mutual diffusion processes, wetting behavior of the base material, and residual stresses. This chapter provides a concise overview of brazing dissimilar carbon materials with molybdenum, presenting the microstructural characteristics of brazed joints and evaluating their mechanical properties using different alloying systems in the brazing filler metal. Due to diffusion processes, carbide compounds form at the brazing filler metal–carbon interphase boundary. These compounds may appear as a continuous layer along the brazed seam or as discrete islands within the seam and porous graphite. The latter configuration is preferable for enhanced mechanical performance. Graphite–molybdenum brazed joints hold significant potential for applications in the aerospace, nuclear, automotive, and medical industries. They are particularly valuable in the production of critical components for thermonuclear reactors due to their excellent high-temperature properties.

Microstructure and Properties of Al Alloys: A Personal View | Chapter 2 | Research Aspects in Chemical and Materials Sciences Vol. 1

 The axiom "Microstructure dictates characteristics" is commonly believed, yet it is tested and found inadequate in this study. While bifilms from the casting process are often inconspicuous in the microstructure, they are frequently just as essential, if not far more so, since they appear as a dense population of fissures throughout the metal. The bifilm population controls the morphology of several cast and wrought structural properties. For cast alloys, bifilm control of pore morphology and Si morphology, as well as dendritic arm spacing, is investigated (DAS). Grain refining appears to have largely bifilm controlled advantages in terms of tensile characteristics. The composition of bifilms appears to have a significant impact on ductility and fatigue. Pitting, intergranular corrosion, hydrogen blistering, and cracking are examples of intrusive corrosion processes. Bifilm control is proposed as a novel method for improving and controlling metallurgical qualities.

Determining the Properties of Phenobarbital an Antiepileptic Drug Using Chemcalise Software | Chapter 03 | Challenges and Advances in Chemical Science Vol. 6

 Barbiturate-class medications are used to treat some disorders, such as insomnia (difficulty sleeping), and to control certain seizures. Phenobarbital is an example of a medicinally important chemical. It's also renowned for its anticonvulsant, antidepressant, and antihypnotic properties [1]. Phenobarbital is used to treat seizures, and its structure is being investigated with the goal of making the medicine more inexpensive, with a wider spectrum of action, and ease of administration. It is regarded the most effective antiepileptic medicine and is utilised as a nonselective central nervous system depressant because of these benefits. Because of the therapeutic value of phenobarbital [1-3]. Chemaxon's chemcalise software was used to investigate its structure and characteristics, and the results were interpreted.

Study on Staphylococcal Species Detected in Digestive Tract of Beavers (Castor fiber) and Their Variability with Properties | Chapter 9 | Research Aspects in Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences Vol. 1

 Staphylococci from the intestines of a beaver (Castor fibre) were studied as a contribution to fundamental microbiology and as part of a beaver microbiome investigation.

Methodology: In the north-east portion of Poland, Województwo (Provincie) Podlaskie Gmina-Wizajny, GPS:22o 52E:54o22N, free-living beavers (12), both male and female (aged 4-5 years) were collected using a net and placed in wire cages. In Poland, sampling was made available. The ethical norms for animal handling were observed for sampling the jejunum (12), colon (12), and caecum (6).

The average number of staphylococci discovered in the jejunum was 2.73 1.16 cfu/g (log 10); the average number of staphylococci in the caecum was 1.87 0.37 cfu/g; and the average number of staphylococci in the colon was 2.89 1.70 cfu/g. Following a score analysis using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, a high degree of variability in staphylococcal species distribution in the gut of beavers was discovered; in total, nine species were identified, belonging to five clusters, and the strains were assigned to the coagulase-negative staphylococcal species. S. hominis and S. haemolyticus were the most commonly found species (five strains for each). Two strains each of S. epidermidis and S. lentus, S. pasteuri, S. cohnii, S. vitulinus, S. warneri, and S. xylosus, S. pasteuri, S. cohnii, S. vitulinus, S. warneri, and S. xylosus Deoxyribonuclease and nearly haemolysis negative strains were found in fifteen of the strains. Ten isolates (not all of which were from the same species) showed low-grade biofilm forming potential. The majority of the germs were methicillin-resistant and produced a lot of lactic acid.

Conclusion: This study adds to the body of knowledge about the staphylococcal microbiome of beavers and allows for a more in-depth examination of specific strain species.

Effects of Thermo-Mechanical Densification Applied to Veneers of Fast-Growing Species to Produce Value-Added Plywood Panels | Chapter 14 | Cutting-edge Research in Agricultural Sciences Vol. 9

 Plywood and other laminated panels are used in place of solid wood in a variety of applications. Densified wood veneers are of particular interest for the production of such composites. This chapter presents selected properties of densified veneers made of two fast-growing species, as well as a new plywood lay-up veneer structure for producing value-added panels for indoor applications. According to the findings of this study, the densification process improved the surface quality and gloss of the veneers, as well as providing a pleasing darker color to the veneers and the plywood made from them. The new plywood structure with alternate layers of densified and non-densified veneers proved to be an effective method for producing panels with improved properties.
