E-Commerce and Consumer Psychology: A Case Study of Online Shopping Behavior in Bhopal City | Chapter 10 | Science and Technology: Developments and Applications Vol. 6

The exponential rise in internet penetration and mobile technology adoption has transformed consumer behaviour, fuelling a massive shift towards online shopping in India. This digital transformation has paved the way for a dynamic e-commerce market where customer preferences, trust factors, and purchasing habits play a pivotal role in shaping business strategies. Understanding the key determinants influencing consumer behaviour is essential for e-commerce companies to optimize their platforms, improve customer satisfaction, and build long-term engagement.

This study delves into the mindset of consumers in Bhopal City regarding online shopping, analyzing their perceptions, motivations, and challenges. A structured online survey was conducted using Google Forms, gathering responses from 166 participants across diverse demographics, including students, working professionals, and self-employed individuals. The study investigates critical factors such as trust and security concerns, preferred payment methods, purchasing patterns, product preferences, and the role of digital marketing in influencing consumer decisions.

The findings reveal that while online shopping is widely accepted due to its convenience, competitive pricing, and wide product range, several barriers still hinder its full potential. Issues related to payment security, online fraud risks, delayed deliveries, return policies, and the reliability of product descriptions were found to impact consumer confidence. Moreover, the study highlights how social media advertisements, promotional discounts, and influencer marketing have emerged as significant drivers of online purchasing decisions.

The insights gained from this research are particularly beneficial for e-commerce businesses, digital marketers, and policymakers, enabling them to develop strategies that address consumer concerns and enhance their online retail experience. By understanding the evolving digital consumer behaviour in tier-2 cities like Bhopal, e-commerce companies can refine their market approaches and expand their customer base more effectively.

Online Shopping Behaviours in an Emerging Economy of Eastern Cape, South Africa | Chapter 2 | Contemporary Issues of Business and Management: The Proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Business and Management Dynamics (ICBMD), Edition 1

E-commerce has proliferated over the last decade due to its ease and convenience. This has resulted in a new era of shopping, where society now uses online shopping platforms on electronic devices such as cell phones, tablets, laptops, and computers to make purchases. Although e-commerce research has increased over the last ten years, there is still insufficient attention to online shopping in emerging economies.

This study contributes to the body of knowledge and the call for studies in this area within developing economies. The study examined the characteristics of university students in South Africa and their perceptions of online shopping behaviour. The perception variables measured for online shopping behaviour were functionality, risk, convenience, decision influence and security.

The focus locale was the Eastern Cape, South Africa, an emerging economy. The study followed a quantitative investigation employing a questionnaire as the selected research instrument. A total of 219 university students participated in the investigation. Furthermore, the analytical approach entailed a statistical analysis using SPSS.

The study revealed that university students prefer online shopping using their cell phones, with fashion being the most popular online product category purchased. The study further explored that university students in an emerging economy are influenced by online shopping platforms’ functionality, security, and convenience facets. University students are reluctant to shop online if such features are not apparent on the online shopping platform. Based on this study's findings, practical and theoretical contributions to the academic domain have implications for business owners trading online.

Riding the Waves of Latent Herding Online Shopping Behaviour | Chapter 12 | Modern Perspectives in Economics, Business and Management Vol. 5

The Internet has exploded in popularity in recent years, and many of its applications are now used by individuals all over the world. Online buying, a relatively new phenomenon in the field of electronic commerce (e-commerce), will undoubtedly be the way people shop in the future, especially during and after the coronavirus illness 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. Online shopping appears to be one of the ways that clients shop nowadays, particularly among the younger generations and those who work. Because of its pervasiveness, the internet has become accessible to the majority of young working people, and many have begun to sell and purchase online. Despite the fact that internet shopping is now relatively prevalent, its growth in the Malaysian market is still lagging behind the worldwide industry. The potential rise of online shopping in Malaysia prompted the notion of conducting an exploratory research on the subject. A survey of 168 part-time students who work in the Klang Valley and also attend Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia was conducted (UKM). The goal of this research is to see how much they know about online purchasing and what factors influence their online shopping habits. Customer happiness, motivation, and influence from other purchasers are among the important reasons for customers to shop online, according to the findings of the study. Respondents have begun to shop online in the same way that other buyers have. The findings of the study could be used by scholars and practitioners to conduct future research in the same field.
