Exploring Mental Time Travel in Shakespeare’s Sonnets: A Neuropsychological Approach | Chapter 6 | An Overview of Literature, Language and Education Research Vol. 7

Time is a major subject in Shakespeare’s sequence of sonnets. Noticeably, the word “time” is mentioned seventy-nine times in the collection along with other relevant words like seasons, weeks, days, hours, and minutes. This study aims to analyze Shakespeare’s use of mental time travel (MTT) in his collection of sonnets, especially those addressed to his young friend. It also hopes to amplify that Shakespeare’s versification of MTT anticipates modern neuropsychological studies on the topic. The study isolates those sonnets that deal with issues relevant to MTT, such as time, life cycle, and memory. The issues are classed out into four different premises induced from the selected sonnets subject to analysis: first, MTT occurs in the sonnets in correlation with objective time; second, the dual constructive and destructive nature of time triggers the need for the memory-based MTT;  third, the disparaging effect of time on the poet and the friend’s mother is meant to stimulate the young friend to heed the future of his extraordinary beauty under the strokes of ruthless time; and, fourth, the destructive force of time on non-human beings and natural phenomena provides another stimulus to urge the young friend to heed the dangers of time on his future. The study concluded that Shakespeare’s demonstration of the Aristotelian concept of chronological time places him within the traditions of the Renaissance which was informed and inspired by the massive movement of humanism. Yet Shakespeare is a poet of all times.

Parasomnias and Disruptive Sleep Disorders in Shakespeare’s Drama: A Neuro-Literary Approach | Chapter 4 | An Overview of Literature, Language and Education Research Vol. 7

William Shakespeare demonstrates a high ability to monitor human behavior and a variety of natural phenomena. In his plays, the groundbreaking playwright incorporated the knowledge of his age about natural human phenomena and further described many clinical and mental disorders. This study aims to analyze Shakespeare's portrayal of sleep disorders from an interdisciplinary perspective, focusing on the aesthetic design of dramatic character developments that result in these illnesses. By combining literary, scientific, and psychological viewpoints, the study aims to demonstrate that Shakespeare dramatizes the cases of infected characters within the context of well-crafted plots, using figurative language rather than diagnosing their illnesses clinically. The study also highlights the hidden motivations and human causes that give rise to parasomnias, as well as the dangers to the community through the vivid plot flow. The study analyzes the parasomnias of insomnia, sleepwalking, sleep talking, nightmares, and apnea. Macbeth clearly illustrates these ailments, except for apnea, which is analyzed in Henry 4, Part 2. Other plays, such as Henry V, Richard II, Julius Caesar, Hamlet, and The Tempest, are subject to scrutiny for the various disorders in question. Neuropsychological studies highlight the consequences of these problems for the diseased person, but this study goes beyond that to illustrate the dangers to the community as well through the vivid plot flow, as in the case of Macbeth, adding a new dimension to the adverse effects of sleep. The researcher recommends further interdisciplinary studies of the individual cases within the cultural context of the Renaissance.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy and Neural Reconfiguration | Chapter 5 | Achievements and Challenges of Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 5

 

Mindfulness was initially translated from the Indian term "Sati," which denotes awareness, attention, and memory. Mindfulness-Based Programs (MBP), particularly Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), highlight their efficacy in managing stress and preventing relapse in mental health disorders. These programs are recognized as third-generation therapies within Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, emphasizing acceptance of internal experiences. This chapter examined neuroimaging studies that reveal mindfulness-induced neural changes in brain regions associated with cognitive control and emotional regulation, such as the prefrontal cortex and amygdala. Despite accessibility and holistic health improvements, the effectiveness of MBP can vary based on individual differences and practitioner expertise. Future research is needed to explore personalized mindfulness interventions and the integration of MBP with other therapeutic modalities to optimize outcomes and broaden accessibility.

Decoding Neurophysiological Differences in the Autistic Brain | Chapter 16 | Advancement and New Understanding in Medical Science Vol. 6

EEG mapping of the autistic brain reveals that a dysfunctional cingulate gyrus (CG) hyperfocuses attention in the left frontal lobe (logical/analytical) with no ability to access the right frontal lobe (emotional/creative), which plays a central role in spontaneity, social behavior, and nonverbal abilities. Autistic people live in a specialized inner space that is entirely intellectual, free from emotional and social distractions. They have no innate biological way of emotionally connecting with other people. Autistic people process their emotions intellectually, a process that can take 24 hours, by which time it is too late to have felt anything. An inactive amygdala makes it impossible for autistic people to experience fear. Because they do not feel emotion, they have no emotional memories. All memories are of events that happened about which they felt no emotion at the time and feel no emotion when talking about it afterward.

Children with Dyslexia that are Learning to Read and How the Neuropsychological Process Influence on it | Chapter 2 | Research Developments in Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 9

 The study aim concerning this article search out describe how the neuropsychological processes influence the knowledge of reading in kids with dyslexia, from a composition review on the subject. We used the methodology of a orderly bibliographical review, based on the study of academic texts on dyslexia and neuropsychology. Along this route, various determinants related to particular reading troubles are examined, containing the educational structure, the social-offspring context, orthography (grapheme and phoneme), attention and thought, and the orthography (phoneme and grapheme).  Thus, this article aims to donate academically to the understanding of the disorder, showing by virtue of what biological, cognitive and friendly aspects intervene in the dyslexia process and emphasizing by virtue of what a good understanding of this disorder and a cautious and multidimensional judgment can be meaningful for a satisfactory and effective attack.

Differential Diagnosis of Autism | Chapter 3 | Recent Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 5

 A diagnosis without a known cause is nothing more than a name that gives the impression of comprehension. Because clinicians diagnose by ticking off symptoms on a checklist with no comprehension of cause and effect, autism has become over-diagnosed and now encompasses a spectrum of diseases with varying degrees of resemblance. This study (a) identifies the unique and defining feature of autism that is responsible for all of its observed traits, (b) maps the neurophysiological differences between an autistic brain and a neurotypical brain, (c) explains the neuropsychological differences between autism and conditions that are frequently misdiagnosed as autism, and (d) provides a litmus test to determine if someone suspected of being autistic has been correctly diagnosed. A malfunctioning cingulate gyrus (CG) causes autism by keeping a person's attention fixed on the left frontal lobe, the logical/analytical section of the brain.

The Neurophysiological Cause of Autism | Chapter 2 | Current Topics in Medicine and Medical Research Vol.3

 The current overly broad definition of autism has launched an epidemic of false diagnoses that include conditions of uncertain similarities. Professionals diagnose by ticking off symptoms on a subjective checklist that has no clear relation to causality. This study firmly establishes that autism has a singular neurophysiological cause that is responsible for all 52 of its documented traits, redefines autism in terms of this unique cause, and provides an objective litmus test whereby you can know for certain if someone suspected of being autistic has been correctly diagnosed.
