Microplastic Pollution Profile in the Black Sea Region | Chapter 5 | Current Innovations in Chemical and Materials Sciences Vol. 9

 

In recent years, plastic pollutants have been mixed into ecosystems with different size variations as megaplastic, macroplastic, mesoplastic and microplastic due to their use in a wide range of sectors. Based on scientific data, the goal of this study was to provide an overview of the structure of research on the presence and dispersal of microplastics (MP) mixed into the environment in the Black Sea region. A total of 100 peer-reviewed articles related to the topic were considered in the review article. The current state of microplastic pollution in Türkiye Black Sea coast environments which includes marine, lake, stream and freshwater ecosystems, as well as aquatic organisms, and sources and characteristics of microplastic pollution were reviewed narratively. As a result, these emerging microplastics affect the socio-cultural-economic aspects through negative impacts on endemic aquatic species, biodiversity, nature tourism, wetland habitats, aquaculture, food chain, and environment-public health. The Black Sea is at risk for microplastic pollution as a result of the discovery of relatively high concentrations of microplastics in its water and aquatic organisms. This has demonstrated the urgency of looking into the causes, movements, and impacts of microplastics on aquatic life in lakes, streams, and oceans. It is advised that awareness-raising campaigns be launched immediately in collaboration with local governments, pertinent public institutions and organizations, and non-governmental organizations. Regular microplastic monitoring studies should be conducted in Türkiye, not only in the Black Sea Region but in all provinces.

Assessment of the Degree of Health Risk among Poultry Workers in Nigeria | Chapter 8 | Research Highlights in Disease and Health Research Vol. 9

 The finest and affordable food protein arisen poultry has advanced the chance for high investment and task opportunities across the sphere for poultry farming. One of the questions generated for one intensive management practice is the very long time exposure of fowl workers to health-connected hazards. This study, therefore, aims to evaluate the level of hazards among the staff appendages in poultry result enterprise and determine their susceptibleness based on the level of uncovering and their job responsibilities inside the poultry firm.Field surveys (that is the use of one hundred pieces of questionnaires administered with staff appendages), interviews, and personal observation were the systems used to gather news from three different farms in Osun and Oyo states. The farms visited contained Tuns Farm (Osogbo), Zartech Farm (Ibadan), and Vina Farm (Ibadan), all in Osun and Oyo States individually. Different units such as pen apartments, farm laboratories, farm laboratories (maintenance engineers, technicians), and Administrative offices were secured with the questionnaires.Results got showed that cholera, E. coli, salmonellosis, staphylococcus, Avian flu, Mark, New Castle afflictions, and diarrhea are ultimate common diseases moving poultry employees. It was also gathered that the chemical compound used as purifier contributes to cough, catarrh, angry throat, and respiring difficulty, especially with the pen attendant who give most of their working hours in the pen house. It was still recorded from the study that, pen assistants who spent betwixt 0-2 and 2-5 years had 0% and 33.33%, while those that gone between 5-10 and10-15years had 15.5% and 0% of health-accompanying diseases individually. This means that the risk of having one those hazards increases as the year valuable progresses, while after spending until about 5 years or further, there is less risk to these hazards, this may be cause their body method is already used to the system (that is working surroundings). Whereas, 0%, 0%, 14.3%, and 0%; 0%, 0%, 20%, and 50%; and 0%, 0%, 28.6%, and 16.7% of related diseases were written for laboratory chemists, engineering/technician and policy-making (other) parts with working occurrence of 0-2, 2-5, 5-10 and 10-15years, respectively. The extreme rate of health hazards among the pen custodians may happen longer hours of time they gone in the pen house that is more than the hours that are being spent by appendages of staff from different units.The study established that the order of pen nurses, engineers/technicians, and laboratory technologists were more dependent on something hazards such as Chest pain, E. coli, Salmonellosis, Staphylococcus, and Avian flu contaminations than any employees from other units in the fowl firm.

The Determining the Role of Endothelium and Extracellular Matrix in Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm | Chapter 16 | New Horizons in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 10

 The goal of this research was to look at the pathophysiology of thoracic aortic aneurysms from a morphological standpoint. Thoracic aneurysms are more prevalent in the ascending aorta and arch, accounting for 60% of all cases, and 40% in the descending aorta, however the etiological causes are different in each area. While atherosclerosis, bicuspid aortic valve, familial thoracic aortic aneurysm syndrome, Turner syndrome, Marfan syndrome, aortic arteritis in Takayasu's arteritis, trauma, and dissection can all lead to thoracic aortic aneurysms, the structural changes to the basement membrane and the exact causes of the mechanism are unknown. Between 2007 and 2017, a total of 12 patients with thoracic aortic aneurysms who were contraindicated to interventional treatment had surgery. Multi-detector row echocardiography and transesophageal echocardiography All patients had CT scans with three-dimensional (3D) reformation in 3 mm slices. The endothelium is partially desquamated, the collagen fibres and basal membrane are significantly altered, and repair attempts in the form of endothelial islets and deep fibre rips, as well as cancellation and destruction of the helical structure of collagen fibres, are made. In thoracic aortic aneurysms, we identified significant structural changes in collagen fibres, endothelium, and basement membrane, which are similar to acquired aortic valve degeneration.

Parasitic Contamination of Lettuce, Tomato and Cucumber from Vegetable Farms in Mali| Chapter 6 | Current Topics in Agricultural Sciences Vol. 7

The goal of this study was to identify parasite contaminants in lettuce, tomato, and cucumber from some Mali vegetable producing areas in order to estimate the health risk associated with their use. Fresh veggies are an important part of a healthy diet. They have the potential to spread intestinal parasites if consumed raw. On thirty-two lettuce, tomato, and cucumber samples from irrigated vegetable fields in Bamako, Kati, Baguineda, Samanko, Sikasso, and Niono, the frequency and diversity of parasite eggs were studied. The parasite burden was determined by counting parasite eggs and cysts in 100 g of vegetable. Overall, 20.83 percent of vegetables were parasite-infested, with lettuce accounting for 41.66 percent and tomato accounting for 16.66 percent. There were no parasite eggs on the cucumber. Entamoeba coli and Trichomonas intestinalis (both 24.19 percent) were found on the vegetables, as well as Ascaris lumbricoides (13.25 percent), Giardia intestinalis (12.9 percent), Balantidium coli (11.29 percent), Entamoeba histolitica (7.26 percent), Fasciola hepatica (3.23 percent), Trichinella spiralis (1.61 percent), Ancylostoma duoden (1.04 percent each). Parasites on lettuce were discovered in 83.33 percent of cases in Bamako and Niono, 50.00 percent in Kati, 16.66 percent in Baguineda and Samanko, and 0.00 percent in Sikasso. Customers are putting their health at danger by eating parasite-infested veggies. Some agronomic procedures used by Mali's vegetable producers might be a source of parasite contamination, putting farmers' and customers' health at risk. Undecomposed manure, open defecation on farms, drain run-off, polluted soil and irrigation water, and overhead irrigation are all possible causes of contamination in lettuce, tomato, and cucumber farms. Scientific quantitative data was required to track the process by which parasites reach irrigated crops and to identify crucial spots where health risk reduction strategies might be implemented.

Determination of Residents’ Perception on Health and Residential Value from Telecommunication Tower | Chapter 10 | Modern Perspectives in Economics, Business and Management Vol. 5

 In recent decades, as a result of cellular phone systems and the rapid increase in the number of cellular phone users, public and scientific worry about probable health dangers, particularly exposure to Electromagnetic Fields, has grown among the general public and scientists (EMFs). The goal of this study is to find out how Malaysian citizens feel about the health effects of telecommunication base stations and how that affects property value. Data from a face-to-face survey (N=509) done in all Malaysian states. The participants were required to fill out a standardised questionnaire that measured significant psychological and psychobiological reactions. The Chi-square test with Fisher's exact and binomial logistic regression were employed in Stata Software for statistical analysis. Only one health symptom, headache, was statistically significant for both residents who live close to base station (300m) and those who live far from base station (>300m), according to the findings. The data show that the appearance of a telecommunication tower has no bearing on the price of a home, with the exception of one health condition, weariness. This document also includes a list of recommendations.

Preliminary Risk Assessment Posed by Formaldehyde Residues in Clothing to Vietnamese Consumers: Critical Observation | Chapter 5 | International Research in Environment, Geography and Earth Science Vol.3

 The assessment of potential health risks posed by formaldehyde in clothing to consumers is of

increasing concern worldwide. Because of this, it is necessary to develop an exposure model that can
realistically mimic clothes wearing conditions. This study aims to preliminarily develop a health risk
assessment model for formaldehyde in clothing, and then to assess the potential health risk posed by
formaldehyde in textiles to adults and infants in Vietnam using the model. Finally, this study aims to
examine the plausibility of the adopted permissible values for formaldehyde in clothing in Vietnam. In
the model, two exposure factors for dermal exposure and overall exposure routes, i.e. sweat type and
perspiration area, were considered. The margins of exposure (MOE) were calculated to estimate the
health risks from worst case and average exposures. The assessment shows that acute exposure via
inhalation can pose health risks to Vietnamese consumers in both cases. In regards to chronic
exposure, dermal exposure is about four (for infants) and seven (for adults) times higher than
exposure via inhalation, but no risks were found for average exposure. If a MOE of 100 is defined as
‘safe’ used, dermal and total chronic exposure to worst case cause potential risks, whereas no health
risks were found for exposure to average case. With the model, the adopted Vietnamese permissible
values for formaldehyde in clothing were assessed as not posing a health risk to Vietnamese
consumers, hence they are accepted.
