Enhancing Information Diffusion in Online Social Networks: A Study on Influential Node Identification and Its Applications | Chapter 5 | Mathematics and Computer Science: Contemporary Developments Vol. 2

Social networks connect numerous people within a short period of time and this property attracts many marketing companies and organizations to promote their products. A major research problem in online social networks is Influential node identification which has a large number of ties in the network. Influence maximization finds an influential node and maximizes information diffusion. Organizations started to use information diffusion features in marketing to improve their product promotion. To achieve influence maximization approximation algorithms and diffusion models are widely used. Influence maximization selects the initial users to effectively diffuse the information to the massive quantity of users in a social network. A greedy algorithm was introduced to discover the information hub effectively. It consists of two diffusion models, namely the Independent Cascade Model (IC) Linear Threshold Model (LT).  IC is one of the influence diffusion models. In this model, every activated node gets a single chance to change the state of the inactive neighbor nodes.  The LT model mainly focuses on the threshold behavior in influence diffusion. The existing methods consider the degree and structure of the network in influential node identification. Most of the existing works consider the number of nearest neighbors, and the user’s connectivity based on the user’s rating. Influential nodes are mainly used in marketing and also used in various applications such as public opinion, healthcare, communication, education, agriculture, and epidemiology.  This work presents a survey of ways to achieve influential maximization in a large-scale social network. Therefore the need for efficient methods to find influential nodes and influence maximization has great importance in the near future.

Transnational Concept in the Spatial Landscape; Port Cities Transnational Transportation Networks in Singapore and Batam | Chapter 5 | Current Progress in Arts and Social Studies Research Vol. 3

Transnational orientation is extremely essential, particularly in how people perceive the transnational world and the social distance between countries and regions. The term "transnational" can also refer to social networks that exist between communities and countries. This research examines the connection of the two countries' relationship, which is constrained by sea crossings, to see if there is a transnational understanding between them. This study proposes to conduct a transnational inventory between the two countries of Indonesia and Singapore, namely between Singapore and Batam, using quantitative and qualitative approaches as a multidisciplinary study. Furthermore, the two countries with a transnational background share border closeness.

The Impact of Social Network Types on the Physical and Mental Health of the Elderly | Chapter 10 | Current Progress in Arts and Social Studies Research Vol. 6

Background: With advancements in technology, the population of elderly individuals is on the rise. As a result, it is crucial to address and provide insights to the scientific community regarding how social networking affects elderly population. Understanding these impacts is essential for developing effective strategies to support the well-being of older adults.

Objective: To analyze the social network characteristics of the elderly and explore the impact of social network types on their physical and mental health.

Methods: Literature search is used to organize 82 influential previous articles, elaborating on the concept, types, and characteristics of social networks, analyzing the impact of several main types of social networks on the physical and mental health of elderly people, and briefly summarizing the influencing factors of social networks among the elderly.

Results: The social network of elderly people in China is mainly based on family networks, with relatively weak friend networks, community networks, and diverse networks, and the proportion of old people with restricted network tends to increase. Except for restricted networks, the other four types of social networks have varying degrees and forms of promoting effects on the physical and mental health of the elderly.

Conclusion: Social networks play an important protective role in the physical and mental health of the elderly, and the collaboration and coordination among government, social institutions, communities, families, and the elderly were required to improve them.

Social Isolation of the Elderly: Current Status, Influencing Factors, and Countermeasures | Chapter 1 | Current Progress in Arts and Social Studies Research Vol. 7

Objective: To understand the current status and influencing factors of social isolation among the elderly, and to explore the improving strategies.

Methods: A literature search is used to organize and analyze 40 papers. Firstly, the concept of social isolation, the status of social isolation among the elderly, and its impact on the health and life of the elderly were introduced. Then, the characteristics, influencing factors, and consequences of social isolation among several elderly populations were emphasized. Based on this, the intervention research at home and abroad was compared.

Results: The incidence of social isolation among elderly people abroad is 20.5% to 52.7%, while that in China is 28.4% to 35.9%. Compared with ordinary elderly people living with families, "empty nest elderly", "elderly people who have lost their only child", and elderly people who receive institutional care are more likely to experience social isolation (P<0.001), and their levels of depression are also higher (P<0.001). The influencing factors of social isolation for the elderly are extremely complex, involving multiple levels of physiology, psychology, and society.

Conclusion: Social isolation has a profound impact on the physical and mental health and quality of life of the elderly, and requires comprehensive intervention from multiple aspects such as national and local policies and financial support, facility allocation and environmental creation by communities and social groups, material assistance and emotional support from families, and active participation of elderly people.

Threats of Social Media among Ethiopian Youths | Chapter 3 | Research Highlights in Science and Technology Vol. 5

The objective concerning this research is to resolve the age and gender dynamics of youths concerning risks and threats through friendly networks. The study also explores the risks and dangers of youths on social networks through evaluating their attitudes towards risks; conspicuous threats; and risk aversion designs. Online communication has enhance a centerpiece in the social life of youths. They exceed adults in their use of ideas technologies, such as friendly networking sites. “Social networks” are connected to the internet communities that present opportunities to connect with, or supply resources to, customers, colleagues, family, and companions who share prevalent interests. The sample size constitutes (n=252) questionnaires; and the data is collected and resolved keeping in view the age and neuter dynamics and the result is presented. The judgments pertaining to risks and warnings on social networks disclose that most of the Ethiopian youths take social networks as a fun and little bit dangerous. Web filters and blocking content is ultimate frequently used means to promote security and risk. But, the most secondhand mechanism for ensuring young population’s safety connected to the internet (blocking and filters) is least trustworthy as effective. The plurality of young people waste their period by using social networks extravagantly. Teenagers in Ethiopia bully their peers more than earlier youth, while online, women bully more than men. Text messages are the most ordinary form of cyberbullying that young people happening, and most of them bully previously every two years. Most young nation either block or ignore immigrants on social media for fear that potential threats.

Professional Networking by Gender: A Case Study on LinkedIn Contacts for a Professor in Science| Chapter 5 | Research Aspects in Arts and Social Studies Vol. 3

In this study, we secondhand dossier from LinkedIn networks to gain awareness in by virtue of what various groups network in conditions of network breadth and feminine arrangement between people. We have assembled unconditional dossier from 751 LinkedIn networks to quantitatively resolve socializing for professional or personal gain trends and network feminine arrangements in the classifications grammatical rules applying to nouns that connote sex or animateness, age, area of work, field of work, level of instruction and area of dwelling. We have still driven socializing for professional or personal gain ”savviness” as a all-inclusive measure of public socializing for professional or personal gain for equating groups in the classifications. The notes fashioned concerning socializing for professional or personal gain attitude with female and male LinkedIn consumers contain that wives approximately had more female contacts than fathers completely types. Female networks occupied in a non-mechanics field were raise to have ultimate masculine equal networks of all groups accompanying an average of 42.5% female contacts. The dossier show further, that people of community in STEM and the for-profit businesses were smarter networkers what consumers accompanying a PhD had minor female contacts approximately than those outside a PhD. Further, Scandinavian networks had considerably more female contacts in their networks than networks from additional European nations and North America had.

Distributive Justice and the Second Law | Chapter 1 | Insights into Economics and Management Vol. 12

Economic inequality in OECD countries, as well as top executive salaries in Fortune 100 companies, are, in our opinion, merely an equilibrium statistical outcome derived from the second law of thermodynamics. The energy distribution among photons in a blackbody follows a power-law distribution (Pareto law, Zipf Law, and Benford Law). This distribution yields correctly: the Gini index, the ratio between rich and poor, the relative poverty, the part of the property held by the upper percentiles. In addition, as a function of the number of employees and average wage, the remuneration of CEOs of Fortune 100 businesses follow the same pattern. As a result, it is concluded that wealth is distributed randomly in free economies using blackbody statistical mechanics.
