Irrigation Fluid Absorption during PCNL: Hematological and Electrolyte Consequences | Chapter 8 | Medical Science: Trends and Innovations Vol. 3

Aim: Percutaneous Nephro Lithotripsy (PCNL) is considered one of the most effective treatment methods for renal and upper ureter calculi measuring >2cm but risk factors for increased irrigation fluid absorption and immediate changes in post-operative patient vitals and hematological profiles have not been identified as that of TURP. Hence the study was conducted to evaluate changes in post of vital parameters, complete blood count and serum electrolytes and their correlation to common factors which is known to affect fluid absorption

Methodology: Thirty-three ASA class I & II patients aged between 18-65 years undergoing PCNL surgery were selected and pre-operative and post-operative heart rate, systolic and Diastolic blood pressure, Temperature, Complete blood count and serum electrolytes were recorded and compared using the student t-test. Correlation post-operative values with the total duration of surgery, total duration of irrigation, TVIRF volume and total intravenous fluid was found with Pearson’s correlation coefficient.

Results: There were statistically significant changes in post-operative blood indices and electrolytes. Post-operative hemodynamic parameters DBP and TEMP had significant changes. Also, there was a significant correlation between these changes with total duration of surgery (TDS), total duration of irrigation (TDIR), total volume of intravenous fluid (TVIVF), and total volume of irrigation fluid (TVIRF) used.

Interpretation and Conclusion: There is a statistically significant fall in blood indices, electrolytes and hemodynamic values with increased IRF absorption.

Recent Trends in Ethylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether Research | Chapter 09 | New Innovations in Chemistry and Biochemistry Vol. 6

Ethylene glycol monomethyl ether (EGME) is a solvent that has a wide range of applications. The results of studies on EGME in humans and animals undertaken over the previous two decades are presented in this chapter. The documentation supports EGME's classification as a gonadotoxicant, with implications for haematological, oxidative state, apoptosis, inflammation, gene expression, and metabolism.

Haemato- Biochemical and Electrolyte Changes in Naturally Occurring Theileria Associated Bovine Anaemia (Taba) | chapter 8 | Research Aspects in Agriculture and Veterinary Science Vol. 2

The goal of this study was to see how haematology and serum electrolytes changed in cows that were naturally infected with theileriosis. In the study, 102 crossbred cows aged 2 to 5 years were screened and analysed. Twelve of them were discovered to be naturally afflicted with theileria. A control group of twelve animals of the same age and appearance were kept. When compared to non-anemic (healthy) cattle, haematological parameters of haemoglobin, packed cell volume, total erythrocyte count, mean corpuscular volume, and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration were considerably (p 0.05) lower in anaemic cattle. In this investigation, electrolyte balance comparisons revealed a significant drop in sodium and ionised calcium concentrations in anaemic mice as compared to the control group at the p0.05 level. Differences in blood potassium and total calcium levels, on the other hand, were not statistically significant (p>0.05). When biochemical values were examined, anaemic animals had a substantial increase (p 0.05) in blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine levels, but a significant decrease (p 0.05) in total protein and albumin concentrations. These findings revealed a bleak picture of circulating blood in animals suffering from theileria-related anaemia.

Normal Hematological Parameters of Barb Horses Raised in Tiaret, West of Algeria | Chapter 8 | Current Research in Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences Vol.1

Barb horse, pride of the Berbers, is a famous Maghreb horse of a particular significance in the
Algerian history, tradition and culture.
This study aims to establish the hematologic values specific to the barb horse in the national stud
farm “Chaou-Chaoua” in Tiaret, Algeria. Age of the studied animals varied between 1 and 23 years.
The effects of age and sex were analyzed by categorizing the horses into two groups of four
subgroups: A (1 - 2 years, n=5), B (3-5 years, n=5), C (5-10 years, n=5) and D (11-23 years, n=5) for
females and E (2 - 3 years, n=5), F (5-7, n=5), G (10, n=5) and H (11-25, n=5) for males. Blood
samples of all these healthy horseswere obtained to determine the following hematologic variables:
erythrocytes (RBC), hematocrit (Ht), hemoglobin (Hb), mean cell volume (MCV), mean corpuscular
hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), mean hemoglobin content (MHC), white blood cells (WBC),
neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, platelets, total number of platelets (PLT)
and mean platelet volume (MPV). The obtained results showed that the hematologic values are within
established standards ofother breeds of hot-blooded horses. Values of RBCs, HCT, Hb, WBCs and
lymphocytesapproached the lower limits of these standards. Statically significant (
P˂0.05) differences
were observed between females in different age groups for MCV, MCHC, Platelets and the MPV.
Groups of males showed significant differences for lymphocytes and platelets. Between males and
females, significant differences were related to MCV, Neutrophils, Basophils Monocytes, Platelet and
MPV.This research showed that these hematologic parameters are weak, as they approach the lower
limits of the standards, and that neither age, nor sex seems to have an influence on the hematologic
values of the Barb horse.

Experimental Study on Acute Exposure of Pyrazosulfuron Ethyl Induced Haematological and Blood Biochemical Changes in the Freshwater Teleost Fish Oreochromis mossambicus | Chapter 4 | Recent Research Advances in Biology Vol. 1

The buildup of agriculture pesticides in the aquatic habitat through natural run-off is a major problem

faced by developing and developed countries. The present study was designed to evaluate the 96 hr

LC50 of herbicide, Pyrazosulfuron-Ethyl, which belongs to the Sulfonylurea group. Static bioassay with

continuous aeration under laboratory conditions, acute toxicity of the herbicide was determined for

freshwater fish Oreochromis mossambicus. Health indicators like hematological and biochemical

parameters are used to detect the functional status of fish under acute exposure. Moreover,

biochemical parameters like plasma glucose, protein, albumin and globulin were also studied to

evaluate the toxic potential of the herbicide. Results revealed that the herbicide led to significant

changes in the hematological parameters such as RBC count, Hb, PCV, MCH, MCHC, MCV and

WBC count and biochemical parameters. These alterations can be used as non-specific biomarkers in

herbicide contaminated aquatic ecosystems.
