Beneficial Effects of Nigella sativa for Osteoporosis and Bone Healing | Chapter 1 | Challenges and Advances in Pharmaceutical Research Vol. 8

Osteoporosis is the most common cause of bone fracture in the senior. Several experimental studies have reported that Nigella sativa( NS) and/ or its main element thymoquinone( TQ) have good goods on osteoporosis and bone mending. We conducted this methodical review to estimate these applicable studies and prove whether NS and/ or TQ have a implicit effect on osteoporosis and can halt the pathogenesis of this complaint or whether this is just a fabrication. A hunt for published studies was conducted in databases similar as Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science and CINAHIL. The hunt terms included" Nigella sativa, black seed, TQ, osteoporosis, bone mending". originally, 213 papers were uprooted. After reviewing the titles and objectifications, 124 papers( Medline, 43; Scopus, 67; EBSCO, 14) were named for farther analysis. After banning clinical trial studies, reviews, abstract junking and unconnected studies, seven studies were eventually considered suitable for our review. Eventually, seven studies were considered suitable for our review. The total number of creatures used was 220( 150 rats and 70 rabbits) from different experimental studies. Grounded on the results of this methodical review, we conclude that NS or remedy with TQ excerpts can not yet be recommended for osteoporosis and that these data aren't sufficient to reliably rule out the salutary goods of NS on bone development. The α- form of the oestrogen receptor appears to be most important in regulating bone development. thus, farther studies are demanded to probe the specific cellular and molecular targets of NS or TQ using osteoporosis beast models.

A Brief Study of Nigella sativa (Kalonji): A Unique Immunomodulator of Unani Medicine | Chapter 12 | Issues and Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 4

Throughout its thousands of years of practise, the Unani System of Medicine has accumulated a wealth of medical knowledge. Herbal medications are becoming increasingly important in modern science, as new scientific information on their safety and usefulness emerges on a regular basis. The pandemic of COVID-19 has emphasised the urgent need for immunomodulators, as inadequate immune modulation is one of the elements that contributes to the disease's aetiology and leads to poor outcomes in COVID-19 patients. Innovative methods and extensive research on immunomodulatory natural products, plants, and their extracts are being pursued in order to generate a novel immunomodulatory agent to complement current chemotherapies. Kalonji (Nigella sativa Linn) has risen to the top of the evidence-based herbal medicine rankings. It has been discovered that Thymoquine, the principal bioactive component of Kalonji's essential oil, is responsible for the majority of the plant's therapeutic benefits. Even on COVID-19, many investigations have shown that N. sativa is a strong immunomodulator and antiviral drug. To highlight the notion of Manaat (Immunity) in the Unani System of Medicine, this article attempts to describe recent scientific work carried out by modern scientists on immunomodulator actions of the most renowned Unani single drug-Kalonji seeds. This will aid in the development of a powerful immunomodulator to tackle the horrors of the COVID-19 pandemic in the near future. In this direction, we can incorporate the complete Kalonji seed or Raughan Kalonji for future comparison studies with Thymoquine on immunomodulation and antiviral studies, as per Unani medicine's concept.

Effect of Supercritical CO2 Extraction of Nigella sativa Seeds in the Formulation of Beef Patties to Enhance the Lipid Stability and Sensory Characteristics | Chapter 2 | Current Research in Agricultural and Food Science Vol. 5

The oxidative stability of beef burgers containing Nigella sativa Super critical CO2 extraction (SC-NSX) and Roasted Nigella sativa Super critical CO2 extraction (SC-roasted NSX) was compared to that of commercial-grade green tea extract (GTE) as a positive control before being stored at -18°C for up to three months. While stored at - 18°C for 3 months, the chemical composition, TBARS, protein oxidation, proximate, cooking yield, pH, colour, and textural qualities and sensory qualities were evaluated. Incorporation of natural antioxidants, on the other hand, resulted in a significant (P 0.05) reduction in TBARS (58–62%) and protein oxidation (31–45%) as compared to control. Furthermore, a significant improvement (P 0.05) in cooking yield and textural features was found and recognised in terms of sensory features. Incorporating NSX and GTE into beef patties had no significant effect on sensory appeal, proximate composition, pH, or colour of the patties (P > 0.05).
