Optimizing Food Container Design: Taguchi Method and S-N Ratio Analysis for Reduced Shrinkage and Warpage | Chapter 8 | Current Approaches in Engineering Research and Technology Vol. 5

Plastic materials are commonly used in various industries due to their special properties including corrosion resistance, lightness, and ease of giving shape. In this study, a food container design was analyzed numerically using a combination of various advanced optimization techniques including the Taguchi Method and S-N Ratio Analysis. The main goal is to maximize product efficiency and quality to improve the strength of product outcomes by identifying and minimizing the impact of various sources of variability. The results showed that to reach the optimum performance, the parameters for melt temperature at 200°C, mold temperature at 30°C, filling time at 1.5 s, pressure holding time 5 s, and pure cooling time at 20 s. The optimum result achieved 0.34 mm and 15.95%, for warpage and shrinkage, respectively. The warpage and shrinkage reduction reached 34.6% and 12.1%, respectively, in comparison with the initial design.

Processing and Characterization of Tribological Properties of Al6061-TiB2 Composite by Taguchi Technique | Chapter 4 | Technological Innovation in Engineering Research Vol. 5

In today's engineering design and development operations, composite materials, which are the combination of two or more materials that are distinct from one another in form and chemical composition, are rapidly assuming increasing significance as a structural material. Many academics are working hard right now to create new and innovative materials for a variety of engineering applications employing various AMCs.

In order to explore the tribological behaviour, attempts are undertaken in this research to create Al-6061/TiB2 composites with varied weight percentages of reinforcement via in-situ stir casting. To assess wear loss and coefficient of friction, abrasive wear experiments were carried out using a pin-on-disc (POD) wear test device in accordance with the Design of Experiments (DOE). The wear loss and COF were further optimised using the Taguchi Technique, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Regression studies. To further examine the wear behaviour of the produced composites, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) photographs of worn-out surfaces are employed. With a rise in the weight percent of reinforcement, wear loss and COF decrease. The ANOVA and regression analyses lead to the conclusion that reinforcement is essential to the growth of the Al 6061-TiB2 composite system.

Determination of Improved Efficacy and Stability of Silymarin Loaded Nanocochleates Over Liposomes for the Treatment of Skin Diseases | Chapter 10 | Current Aspects in Pharmaceutical Research and Development Vol. 6

Aim: The anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and membrane-stabilizing properties of silymarin, a complex polyphenolic component mixture, are being studied in a variety of dermatological disorders. The goal of this study is to see if silymarin-loaded nanocochleates and liposomal topical treatment can help with chronic skin conditions.

The purpose of this study was to create and assess Silymarin-loaded liposomes, as well as to optimise the process. Conversion of these liposomes into nanocochleates for better drug entrapment, antibacterial activity, cytotoxicity against HaCaT cell lines, and short-term stability investigations.

Design Expert software was used to develop and optimise silymarin-loaded liposomes and nanocochleates. To compare their performance, different invitro and exvivo experiments were used.

Methodology: Liposomes were created by injecting ethanol into them, then trapping them with calcium chloride to form nanocochleates. Nanocochleates were optimised using a design of experiments (32 Factorial Design). To compare efficacy and stability, cell line experiments (HaCaT cell lines) and short-term stability tests were conducted.

Results: Nanocochleates outperformed liposomes in terms of particle size, entrapment efficiency, and drug deposition in Wistar Rat Skin, demonstrating their superiority. Both carriers maintained silymarin release for 24 hours. Nanocochleates had a considerable antimicrobial activity against E.coli and S.aureus. The superiority of nanocochleates over liposomes was established by their ability to inhibit excessive proliferation of HaCaT cell lines (a crucial mechanism by which most antipsoriatic medications work). Nanocochleates also had superior stability than liposomes, owing to lower drug entrapment efficacy and leakage.

Conclusion: Nanocochleates containing silymarin could be an effective topical drug delivery technology for chronic skin conditions such as psoriasis.

Design of Experiments: A Tool for Statistical Analysis | Chapter 9 | Current Aspects in Pharmaceutical Research and Development Vol. 5

Quality by Design (QbD) has various advantages in the field of new product development, including less annoyance, increased efficiency, reduced regulatory compliance obligations, and increased customer loyalty. The FDA and the pharmaceutical industry take a more rigorous approach to the creation of medications. Scientific, holistic, and risk-based approaches should be considered when developing new medications. QbD elements are specified when a corporation designs and develops a product. Several input elements influence the quality of procedures and products in general. Using the design of experiment, researchers have recently concentrated on understanding the impact of multidimensional and interrelated input elements on the outputs of medications and analytical methods (DoE). It also looks at how DOE might be applied for both students and teachers, as well as historical viewpoints on DOE. A well-designed experiment can help you make the most of your resources while also making it easy to examine the data. The importance of collaborations between scholars and practitioners in pushing the boundaries of experimental design is investigated. It covers the fundamentals and applications of the most common screening and response surface designs, as well as how to create blended designs.

To put it another way, the goal of the experiment is to reduce ambiguity and uncertainty. Relationships between and among variables are investigated in a good experimental design; in general, one variable, the independent variable, is controlled to quantify its effect on other variables. Any researcher utilising experimental design should be concerned about dependent control; in experiments, the researcher chooses an intervention that is linked to the independent variable and then controls how that intervention is used in the research environment. A causal relationship between the independent and dependent variables can be established if the experimental design is followed correctly.
