A Review on Transient Drug-Induced Myopia | Chapter 12 | Recent Updates in Disease and Health Research Vol. 3

Myopia is the most common eye disease and is one of the leading causes of vision impairment worldwide. It (nearsightedness) is a refractive error, a condition in which the cornea and lens of the non-accommodating eye have too much plus power for the length of the eye. As a result, images of distant objects are focused in front of the retina and thus appear blurred. Transient drug-induced myopia is a myopia induced by a drug as a transient side effect. Several case reports of transient drug-induced myopia have been reported. An adverse drug reaction is an expression that describes harm associated with the use of a given medication at a normal dosage during normal use. These cases have been associated with secondary angle closure glaucoma and other ocular conditions such as choroidal detachment, maculopathy, and retinal folds. Drugs known to produce this effect include sulfa drugs and other medications. The possible mechanism is thought to be an allergic reaction to the drug. Both ciliary muscle contraction and ciliary body edema may play a role in the Patho mechanism. Differential diagnosis is made with a number of conditions, either ocular in origin or associated with an underlying systemic cause. Discontinuation of medications leads to complete resolution of the anatomic shift.

Drug Safety Assessment in Ayurveda Clinical Trial and Practice: An Approach towards Concepts and Issues | Chapter 1 | Current Aspects in Pharmaceutical Research and Development Vol. 5

 One of the most hotly debated topics these days is the safety of Ayurvedic medicines. In Ayurveda practise and research, the magnitude of Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) is underreported. Ayurveda has traditionally placed a premium on safe therapy, which includes alleviating symptoms while avoiding the onset of new ones. Others are unable to acquire and understand the information and terminologies described in old books. Drug safety terms are not covered in Ayurveda's undergraduate and postgraduate curricula for detecting ADR. As a result, an attempt was made to study Ayurveda's drug safety concept and issue in the light of modern pharmacology. One of the components of Rogi surakshya is drug safety, which may be related to bhesaja dosa or abhesaja. In Ayurveda, an adverse drug reaction or incident is known as dravya Vyapad, virudha, or ahita. In the year 2008, the National Pharmacovigilance Program for reporting adverse medication reactions for Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani (ASU) pharmaceuticals was launched. In this study, the contemporary nomenclature of medication safety was introduced, as well as the component responsible for ADR. In the notion of ADR in Ayurveda medicine, the dosha vidha parikshya (Tenfold of clinical evaluation) takes a more comprehensive approach. Heavy metals in excess of allowed limits, dangerous microorganisms, pesticide residue, and aflatoxin can all be hazardous to human health. This review discusses the predictability of adverse medication reactions to metallic and plant-based pharmaceuticals. This review also discusses drug and herb interactions. The Ayurvedic medical process Panchakarma (Detoxification therapy) has the highest reported ADR in a study. The most common presenting symptoms of ADR in Ayurvedic treatment are skin rashes, diarrhoea, and vomiting. ADR faces a hurdle in standardising Ayurvedic formulations. The ADR protocol is being presented as a research and practise tool. In current clinical practise and research, this issue may provide some insight into the prevention, diagnosis, reporting, and management of adverse drug reactions.

Case Report: The Correction of Post Filler Complication on the Lips (Old Granulomas) with Plasma Exeresis| Chapter 9 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 15

The goal of this article is to educate the medical community on how to use the Plasma Exeresis method to cure tough patients. Plasma Exeresis is a unique technology that produces the fourth state of matter, Plasma. In a nutshell, Plasma Exeresis is a cordless micro-surgical hand-operated equipment that is certified. Plasma Exeresis sublimates the epidermis without passing through the basal membrane, shrinks the elastic fibres of the dermis, and creates collagen type III without the undesirable skin lesion, according to histological data. We can correct fibrosis and granules employing Plasma Exeresis in combination with the above process (and other medical lesions e.g. xanthelasmas, hemangioma, non-invasive blepharoplasty, papilloma, fibroma, benign tumors, etc.). It also hastens the repair of damage, the softening of wrinkles, and the regeneration of skin fibres. The case study that follows can be described as difficult and demanding, especially given the extent of the harm. The patient was a 55-year-old lady who had previously received failed treatment. The incident occurs in Greece. Lip fillers made of an unknown substance were the source of the problem. The negative effects (granules) (as seen in the photographs below) were paired with a 15-year depression condition. Many doctors (even plastic surgeons) thought the granules were insurmountable, but the Plasma Exeresis approach proved to be quite effective in the end. As a result, Plasma Exeresis might be thought of as a novel way for healing and restoring difficult instances.

The goals of this study, which are focused on the lips (although further research has been done on other regions of the face), could not be remedied until recently due to filler complications such as nodules. Plasma Exeresis is capable of providing a solution to such issues when one previously did not exist.

Lichenoid Drug Eruptions: An Overview | Chapter 8 | Current Topics in Medicine and Medical Research Vol.3

 Lichenoid skin disorders are a group of dermatological manifestations associated with flat topped itchy and scaly skin. These are also well known as drug induced lichen planus and are result of cutaneous adverse effects by most drugs. Offending agents involved in the lichenoid disorders are Antimalarial, Antidiuretics, Antihypertensive and Non-Steroidal Anti- inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) etc. Severity of reactions depends upon the involvement of offending dug and other factors such as age, immunity. In this chapter brief information regarding the types of lichenoid disorders and overview illustration of lichenoid drug eruptions with a classic example, its management is explained clearly.

The aim of this chapter is to create awareness among the public regarding common medications
which cause cutaneous adverse effects and the general measures that should be taken to reduce the
severity in such conditions.
