Assessment of Molecular Transport OF Chloromethanes through EPDM/PVC Systems | Chapter 9 | Chemical and Materials Sciences - Developments and Innovations Vol. 1

A large group of engineering materials of steadily increasing importance in industrial applications is composed of natural and synthetic organic polymers. In recent years, significant progress has been made in many areas of polymer blend and polymer matrix composite science and technology. The examination of the interaction of aliphatic hydrocarbons with macromolecular systems is important for various industrial applications. The transport behavior of EPDM/PVC composites has been studied using the three halogenated hydrocarbons; methylene chloride, chloroform and carbon tetrachloride, which are part of the homologous series of the chloromethanes, as probe  molecules. Peroxide and sulfur were employed to crosslink the matrix. It was investigated how the crosslink density, penetrant type, and crosslinking  system type affected the transport property. Among the chloromethane group, there is a peculiarity that can be observed: sorption increases with  increasing molar volume or the amount of chlorine atoms, as would be expected from basic solubility parameter considerations. The mechanism of transport was found to be deviated slightly from Fickian trend. The differences in the equilibrium uptake can be explained on the basis of morphological changes.

Studies on Gastroretentive Drug Delivery System for Ritonavir Tablets Using Natural Polymers | Chapter 8 | Current Overview on Pharmaceutical Science Vol. 6

The purpose concerning this study is to arrange and evaluate floating tablets of ritonavir (RN) in consideration of improve drug bioavailability by reaching gastric home time. Because of allure short biological half-life, RN, an antiretroviral power used to treat HIV and viral afflictions, was chosen as a model drug in this place study (3-5 hrs). Furthermore, it is generally absorbed through the stomach. The dry granulation technique was used to create RN floating tablets, that contained guar paste and xanthan gum as polymers, sodium bicarbonate as an fizzing agent, polyvinylpyrrolidone as a binding power, Dicalcium phosphate as diluents, crospovidone as a swelling power, and magnesium stearate as a lubricant. The verdicts indicated that the drug and polymers were not incompatible. The material properties of the qualified tablets were evaluated. All of the limits were within pharmacopoeial tolerances. Tablets' buoyant properties and in vitro drug release traits were also examined. The drug release profiles of the tablets were reserved and prolonged. The expression developed was found expected stable. The grown floating tablets of RN have a 12-stage release time, which can improve bioavailability and lower fluctuations in skin drug concentrations.
