Assessment of Solid Polymer Electrolyte Films of PVA Doped with Different Compositions of Zinc Sulphide (ZnS) Systems | Chapter 6 | Recent Developments in Chemistry and Biochemistry Research Vol. 4

The present paper investigates solid polymer electrolyte films of PVA doped with different compositions of zinc sulphide (ZnS) systems. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is well-known for its tremendous impact strength at low temperatures, especially its flexibility, good moldability, high strength, heat-stable and chemical resistance. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) based Zn2+ ion conducting solid polymer electrolyte was prepared using a solution-cast method. To study the structure, measurements were made using Fourier transform infrared analysis (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). To learn more about the material's optical characteristics, the 200–800 nm range optical absorption spectra were examined. The material's optical absorption edge, direct energy gap, and indirect energy gap were included in this data. The direct optical energy gap for pure PVA lies at 6.08 eV, while PVA doped with zinc sulphide ranges from 5.28 to 5.68 eV for the different compositions. It was evident that the energy gaps and band edge values transferred to lower energies on doping with ZnS up to a dopant concentration of 92 wt.% of PVA and 8 wt.% of ZnS. In order to learn more about the conductivity order and charge transport in these materials, the ionic conductivity and transference number of PVA polymer electrolytes were measured for this investigation. The charge transport in PVA polymer electrolyte was measured to be largely due to ions (tion=0.97), as indicated by the transference number. Increasing the ZnS concentration and the temperature were both found to raise the ionic conductivity. The discharge properties of solid-state battery cells made with this PVA polymer electrolyte were studied while operating under a constant load of 100 kW. The evaluated cell para- meters of the cell (Zn/92 PVA:08 ZnS)/(I2 + C + electrolyte)) offer a significant application for solid-state batteries. Hence, the analyzed properties of Zn2+ ions doped with PVA polymer electrolytes are highly acceptable and promising for battery applications.

The Effect of ca+2 Addition on the Properties of ce0.8gd0.2o2-δ(GDC) Electrolyte for IT-SOFCs | Chapter 6 | Current Innovations in Chemical and Materials Sciences Vol. 8

Ceria has fluorite type crystal structure. The structure can be viewed as an FCC array of Ce ions with the oxygen ions residing in the tetrahedral holes. The 1:2 statiometric is maintained. Pure ceria it shows high electronic conductivity than ionic conductivity. However, the ionic conductivity of ceria based electrolytes can be improved by introducing aliovalent cations to doped ceria. When aliovalant cations (Ca2+,Sr2+,Ba2+,Ln3+,Sm3+,Gd3+,Nd+3) are doped in ceria it shows higher ionic conductivity due to generation of oxygen vacancies in the sub lattice. This paper reports the effect of Ca2+ addition on the structural and electrical properties of Ce0.8Gd0.2O2-δ(GDC) electrolyte for low temperature solid oxide fuel cell application. The Ca2+ (0, 0.5, 1 and 2 mol %) doped GDC solid electrolytes have been prepared by solid state method. The sintered densities of the samples are greater than 95%.. Raman spectra show the presence of GDC single phase. AC impedance analysis is used to measure the ionic conductivity of the electrolyte. Among all the compositions, the highest conductivity is observed in the GDC sample with 0.5 mol% Ca2+ addition. Nyquist plots resulted in multiple redoxation process such as grain and grain boundary conductions to final conductivity. The XRD study reveals cubic structure with increase in lattice parameter with Ca2+content in pure GDC electrolyte. It is observed that grain size increases by increasing Ca2+ concentration up-to 1 mol% from 1.72 to 10.20 µm. The GDC electrolyte containing 0.5mol% Ca2+ had an estimated blocking factor that is lower, suggesting that the inclusion of Ca2+ enhanced grain boundary conduction. The Arrhenius plot was used to compute the activation energies, which are in the region of 1eV.

Study on PVDF-HFP Based Nanocomposite Polymer Electrolytes for Energy Storage Devices Dispersed with Various Nano-Fillers | Chapter 01 | Research Trends and Challenges in Physical Science Vol. 7

Various compositions of nanocomposite polymer electrolyte (NCPE) films were successfully synthesised using the solution casting method, including Polyvinylideneflouride-co-hexafluoropropylene (PVDF-HFP) as a host, Magnesium chloride (MgCl2) as an ionic salt, and various concentrations of nanosized ceramic fillers -TiO2, MgO, ZnO, and Al2 The effect of various ceramic filler dispersion in SPE on ionic conductivity of SPE has been addressed. At room temperature, the best bulk conductivity () for optimum conducting composition (OCC) of solid polymer electrolyte is 4.69x10-7 S/cm-phase-Ist. Further, with the addition of filler-phase IInd, conductivity rose and reached a maximum for NCPE composition, i.e. PVDF-HFP: MgCl2: ZnO (70:30:3) of 1.25x10-5 S/cm, and from temperature dependency investigation, we obtained a maximum for OCC of NCPE at 110 0C of 1.24x10-4 S/cm. Impedance All samples' electrical characteristics were measured using spectroscopy in the frequency range 42Hz-5MHz and temperature range 30-1100C. X-ray Diffraction (XRD) was employed to characterise the structural properties of these NCPE films. Wagner's dc polarisation approach yielded an ion transport number of 0.99 for the OCC of the NCPE system.

Dispersed Solid Electrolyte Systems: A Brief Review | Chapter 1 | Research Trends and Challenges in Physical Science Vol. 2

Solid State Ionics, which have a high ionic conductivity and a low activation energy for ion migration at temperatures below their melting point, are a rapidly emerging research topic. Because of their unusual transport properties and possible applications, these solid electrolytes have piqued the interest of researchers. The dispersion of a non-conducting and chemically non-interacting phase in the solid electrolyte is one of the most recent approaches. Dispersed solid-electrolyte systems are the name given to these electrolytes. The characteristics of scattered solid-electrolytes are briefly reviewed in this chapter.

Ionic Solids: Introduction, General Aspects | Book Publisher International

The introduction of ionic solids is covered in this book. In both basic research and possible applications, solid-state transport phenomena are of equal relevance. Because of its appealing electric-power applications, ionic solids have attracted a lot of attention. In many solid-state processes, ionic conduction is a crucial step. Microstructure and physical characteristics of ionic conductors vary. There are four forms of solid ionic conductors: open channel architectures, amorphous-glassy electrolytes, polymer electrolytes, and composite electrolytes. Each has critical applications that demand various fabrication techniques.
