Assessment of the Performance of ZnO Nanosheets in Organic Pollutant Degradation via Hydrothermal Synthesis | Chapter 1 | Current Innovations in Chemical and Materials Sciences Vol. 3

The purpose concerning this research is to check the production of zinc group of chemical elements nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) using an effective and surfactant-free hydrothermal process for use as a photocatalytic agent in the purification of natural polluted water. The fundamental characteristics, optical possessions, and photocatalytic performance of ZnO NPs have all happened studied. The contamination of water beginnings with basic pollutants poses a significant warning to both the surroundings and public health. Organic pollutants are compounds arisen human activities, to a degree industrial processes, agriculture, and household waste, and they can have detrimental belongings on aquatic ecosystems and the feature of drinking water. X-Ray dissemination (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), High judgment transmission energized matter microscopy (HR-TEM), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and UV-vis incorporation spectroscopy were used as examining and characterization techniques. The ZnO NPs accompanying hexagonal form and intriguing applicable characteristics were generated by changeful the processing duration at a depressed treatment hotness of 75 °C. The broadening of the XRD peaks were decreased by increasing the backlash time; signifying a crystallinity enhancement of ZnO NPs. Meanwhile, the crystallite size and strength band gap are response time-dependent, that in turn influences the photocatalytic performance. Under UV irradiation, ZnO NPs have a photocatalytic failure efficiency of 93% for methyl combination of red and yellow (MO) dye. The bandgap of ZnO NPs (3.38 eV) is excellent for UV light absorption and swift production of charge warships, resulting in photooxidation processes that degrade the basic dye.

Hydrothermal Treatment to Produce Honeycomb-like Structure of Hierarchical Carbon from Intsia, spp Waste Wood: Preparation and Characterisation | Chapter 7 | New Innovations in Chemistry and Biochemistry Vol. 5

Hydrothermal treatment of Intsia spp wood waste resulted in the formation of hierarchical carbon structures resembling honeycombs. The goal of this research is to see how hydrothermal and non-hydrothermal activation methods differ in the hierarchical synthesis of carbon. The hydrothermal treatment was created sequentially using ZnCl2 as an activator and H2O2 as an oxidizer. Carbonisation at 700°C under N2 gas (HC-ZH) and oxidation at 350°C in an oxygen stream follow the hydrothermal process (HC-ZH-Ox). XRD, FT-IR, the Boehm method to measure the quantity of oxygenated functional groups (OFGs), the NH3 base gas adsorption method to estimate the total acid amount, and the Surface Area Analyzer (SAA) and SEM were used to examine all carbonised products. XRD study reveals hierarchical carbon with amorphous structure. The content of OFGs was increased by 50.25 percent for carboxylic groups, 354.62 percent for phenolic groups, and 3.9 percent for lactone groups after hydrothermal treatment. The existence of OFGs was established via FTIR analysis. The largest surface area obtained by hierarchical carbon non-hydrothermal (HC-Ox) of 443.5 (m2/g) was produced by hydrothermal treatment, which enhanced acidity by 387.83 percent. The surface area of the HC-ZH-Ox is 232.2 (m2/g). In the samples HC-ZH-Ox and HC-Ox, a SEM picture shows a stacked honeycomb-like structure with varying thicknesses.

Sol-Gel and Hydrothermal Derived Mn-doped ZnO Films with Optical and Piezoelectric Properties | Chapter 6 | Recent Developments in Engineering Research Vol.1

In this work, Mn-doped ZnO films obtained by sol-gel (SG) and hydrothermal (HT) methods were prepared for possible optical and piezoelectric applications. The amount of Mn dopant was 1, 2 and 5at% and the films were deposited on glass and Si/SiO2/Ti/Pt substrates. The comparative characterization of the films for their structure, morphology, optical and piezoelectric properties was achieved. SG films exhibit equiaxed nanoparticles, with diameters around 50 nm, while uniform 1D nanorods, sized about 30 nm diameter and 200-300 nm length, were obtained for the films prepared by HT method. XRD diffractograms reveal the presence of zincite phase, with an improvement in crystallinity of the HT films, which present a stronger orientation along (002) plane (c-axis). Spectroscopic ellipsometry shows that the films obtained by SG are much thinner than the ones obtained by HT, and that the refractive index is increasing with the percent of dopant. The maximum transmission is the highest for the undoped ZnO film and decreases with Mn concentration, but remains over 78% in the visible range. The piezoelectric tests have shown for both SG and HT derived films low d33 coefficient. The highest value of d33 is obtained for HT film with 2at% dopant.  Based on the obtained results the research directions for the improvement of piezoelectric properties could be outlined.
