IOT-Based Smart Energy Management System for Real-Time Monitoring and Automation | Chapter 2 | Intelligent IoT Systems: From Research to Real-World Solutions

In present days, energy consumption is becoming a major concern for individuals, businesses, and agriculture. Inefficient energy consumption contributes to environmental degradation by raising electricity bills and increasing reliance on non-renewable resources. This approach gives a design and implements an IoT-based Smart Energy Management System for real-time monitoring, predictive automation, and cloud-based control of electrical appliances in smart homes. The system was created using various sensors to track voltage, current, temperature, occupancy and light. Real-time automation was obtained using relay modules and a servo motor for curtain automation. Firebase Realtime Database was utilised for cloud storage, control, and predictive data retrieval. Energy consumption was calculated in kilowatt-hours based on voltage and current values. Manual, schedule-based, and predictive override were implemented. The system effectively monitored energy consumption and reduced power levels by 18%. It automatically shut down equipment when idle or in accordance with pre-scheduled occupancy estimates. The system responded in real-time to sensor inputs and user-scheduled events. Power telemetry and daily logging were always synchronised with Firebase to enable smooth cloud updates and user interaction. The proposed system offers a safe, scalable, and intelligent home energy management system for the future through the use of IoT sensors and cloud technology to enable automation, predictive control, safety, and future-proof compatibility with new smart grid infrastructure for improved sustainability and operational efficiency.

Sustainable Heating for Building Premises Using Solar Energy | Chapter 7 | New Horizons of Science, Technology and Culture Vol. 1

The objective of this work is to demonstrate the importance of solar thermal systems for energy savings in buildings. The solar thermal system covers the heating needs of the offices. The solar thermal collectors are installed on the building's terrace and are used to heat water. This water will be stored in the solar tank, then distributed to the premises by heat emitters. The building is located on the heights of Algiers. Based on the surface area of the premises to be heated, we sized the heating system and calculated the energy demand, which depends on the surface area of the collectors to be installed and the storage tank. TRNSYS software is used for dynamic simulation of the building's performance. The annual energy requirements for heating amount to 2,754 kWh. This led to the installation of a 10 m² solar thermal collector field and a 500-litre solar tank. The useful energy of the solar collector field reached 500 kJ/h in June. This fully covers the heating demand (100%). For the summer season, this energy will be used to produce domestic hot water.

Energy Crisis vs. Energy Self-Sufficiency: Optimal Policy with Firms Investment Behavior | Chapter 7 | Current Aspects in Business, Economics and Finance Vol. 4

After the conflict in Ukraine, choosing the best course of action for ensuring the nation's energy independence from imports can be seen as balancing geopolitics in the larger world. The study demonstrates that nations can achieve energy self-sufficiency if the price of oil is high enough to encourage businesses to switch to alternate energy sources. In order to achieve energy independence in the face of competing markets, scarce resources, and alternative energy sources (oil-saving technology), the research introduces an oil tax (to raise oil prices). The policy instrument outlines the changes the German government will make to gas sources in order to cut back on Russian gas imports. The report also compares various static scenarios in which the regulator acts first (or not) in relation to the firms. There are several possible equilibriums, but only one is socially optimal. The study demonstrates that taxation influences the adoption of various energy-saving technologies, and as a result, the total amount of oil is reduced due to the adoption of alternative sources, which is a requirement for energy self-sufficiency.

Energy Self-sufficiency through Renewables with Endogenous Investment in R&D: The Role of Central Authority | Chapter 5 | Current Aspects in Business, Economics and Finance Vol. 4

The energy crisis, the increase in oil prices that follows any war, inevitably leads both firms and governments to review their investment strategies in energy sources, in order to achieve self-sufficiency through renewables. This paper analyzes the strong interplay between investment in R&D and firms’ behavior in reducing oil usage in competitive markets, where firms have to pay for the energy saving technology offered by a monopolistic innovator. By assuming that innovation follows a Poisson process, whose arrival rate depends on the number of resources invested in R&D, we show that market instruments are not able to mimic central authority, which provides a higher level of social welfare, than market instruments. This is induced by the endogeneity of the R&D process. The result is similar to Denicolo (1999) and Parry (2003), although under different assumptions. However, higher taxation indeed induces more investment in R&D, as in the cited research studies.

Assessment of Solar Cell System Design for Mechanical Cooling System on the Ferry 500 GT | Chapter 6 | Novel Perspectives of Engineering Research Vol.7

Energy power is now a basic demand for almost everyone on the planet. Electrical energy is essential to the functioning of the economy. Electricity can be produced from a variety of energy sources. Outline his energy can be divided into two categories: updateable energy and non-updateable energy. Energy that cannot be updated, such as that obtained from fossil and nuclear fuels, as well as energy that can be updated, such as that derived from geothermal (solar energy), ocean waves, waterfalls, wind, and other natural sources. Energy sources that cannot be updated, such as energy sourced from fossil fuels, are gradually being phased out as prices rise and the number of energy sources available decreases. Heat (solar thermal) or electricity (electricity) can be generated using the Sun's energy (photovoltaic). Solar energy is used as a source of electrical energy in engineering as a solar photovoltaic plant with no pollution, air pollution, or pollution on the environment. In photovoltaics, the solar cell is the most important component. Due to the relative amount of Sun energy and the fact that the Sun bathes the territory of Indonesia 10-12 hours a day, the usage of solar cells on a ship can be used as energy in a variety of electrical equipment on the ship. In this scenario, the solar cell was used to power the mechanical cooling equipment on board a ferry that travels around Indonesia. Solar energy consumption is expected to reduce the use of fossil fuels and save money on operating costs.

Techno-Economic Analysis of Retrofitted Electric Coaster Introduction in University Campus | Chapter 10 | New Approaches in Engineering Research Vol. 13

Green transportation focuses on resource economy and effectiveness, which results in a lower carbon footprint and a healthier environment for the country by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The final solution may be promising new technology, but innovation will only happen if society plays a key role in the development of electric vehicles that reduce carbon emissions. Understanding how markets work to save fuel is essential for designing effective and cheap policies that enable the development of low-carbon technologies in line with political objectives. The purpose of this study is to build a 14-seat all-electric mini-coaster by retrofitting a diesel Mercedes-Benz Van with a 15-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery (LiFePO4). An AC induction motor with a max power of 60 kW and torque of 150 Nm drives the coaster. As an auxiliary battery, a 3.44 kWh lithium battery is used to power the battery cooling system and the passenger compartment cooling system. The coaster can travel 40 kilometres on a single fully charged battery. Depending on Malaysian fuel rates, the coaster's power consumption is 340 Wh/km [cost USD 0.025 (RM0.12) per kilometre]. When powered by a battery, the coaster's real operating costs are RM144 per month, and RM600 per month when powered by an internal combustion engine. As a result, both the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) and the environment gain from the cost-effective electric mini-coater.

Studies on Energy Management for Compressed Air in Cement Industry by Using Lean Principle | Chapter 6 | Emerging Trends in Engineering Research and Technology Vol. 11

Power is an ultimate source for all tasks to be done. It is described as the skill or power to do  Job, such as the ability by the application of force to shift an object. In a range, energy can exist  Electrical, mechanical, chemical and thermal forms. Energy is not going to be made, but it can be  Transformed from one to the next. Small energy resources India has approximately 1% of India's energy resources.  Global energy supplies, however, account for 16% of the world's population. The manufacturing sector accounted for 51 percent of the total. In 2007, global energy demand was delivered and is expected to rise by an average annual 1.3 percent [worrell Ernst 2004]. Approximately half of all industrial energy usage is used in energy intensive manufacturing in particular processes. In all process industries, compressors are the instruments that play a major role and are also one of the major power consuming fields. Using the required layout, this paper seeks to recognise and eliminate routine waste that causes higher energy consumption in the cement process industry (ULTRA TECH CEMENTS-RDCW).
