An Analysis of Golden and RED Proportion in Aesthetic Smile: Prevalence and Application | Chapter 2 | Achievements and Challenges of Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 1

Smile designing has long been considered a subjective art. Most of the aesthetic disciplines have prescribed proportions and ratios to improve aesthetics. A beautiful smile is the most striking feature on the face. However, beauty is not absolute and is extremely subjective. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of ‘Golden proportion and Recurring aesthetic dental proportion’ in individuals presenting attractive smiles. In this study, 214 smile photographs of students of SDM Dental College aged 18-25 years with natural dentition were analysed for their attractiveness based on 6 predetermined criteria. The subjects were induced to a spontaneous maximum open smile (smile displaying teeth). The smiles that fulfilled all the six criteria were then classified as aesthetic smiles and the rest as unpleasing or non-agreeable smiles. Further, smiles were digitally analysed to evaluate the prevalence of Golden Proportion and Recurring Aesthetic dental proportion (RED) and the obtained data was statistically analysed. The RED proportion was present in 6.6% of the population as opposed to the golden proportion which was found in 0.6% of the population. It was found that 70%RED was more prevalent than the Golden Proportion in attractive as well as unattractive smiles. Within the limitations of the study, it can be concluded that while restoring or replacing maxillary anterior teeth all proportions should be taken into consideration.

Judo as a Work of Art: Exploring Aesthetic Dimensions in Sport | Chapter 4 | New Ideas Concerning Arts and Social Studies Vol. 1

Judo, according to the translation of the meaning of the Japanese language "gentle way", "gentle means", or "The Way of softness and flexibility.

In this study, an argument was introduced that the first principles inherent in art, that is its formal components such as line, colour, composition and so on can be viewed as mechanisms enabling a deeper aesthetic appreciation of sport. In this particular case the sport looked at is judo.

One could claim that in art the extrinsic aim is to create a work, a particular body, as it were whereas in sport this is not the explicit aim. Furthermore, art is neither agonistic nor pragmatic in the way sport is, where the intrinsic aim is not merely the work or performance itself but the tallying of points in a clearly defined manner toward victory.

If this thesis is correct, it implies an interdisciplinary field of study traversing art and sport, the humanities and the sciences and overturns the old Cartesian dualism in favor of a more integrated embodied experience.

Study on Aesthetics, Art and Sport: A Perspective towards “Argument from Intertwining” | Chapter 8 | Selected Topics in Humanities and Social Sciences Vol. 1

Significant Enlightenment philosophers in aesthetics, such as Schopenhauer and Hegel, form the foundation of many of our aesthetic ideas. After briefly unpacking their ideas in this regard, I argue that such philosophers are unable to deal with non-mimetic art, such as abstract painting, and that their views on aesthetics only apply to a subset of the visual arts. In this case, I propose an alternative aesthetics that takes into account artistic advances. Specifically, a metaphorical view of art. Another way to perceive the metaphorical play of images and/or words is to recognize the distinction that analytical philosophers make between various meanings of the word "is," as in mimetic resemblance. This aesthetics conception appears to argue for the pervasiveness of aesthetic experience, undermining the said philosophers' hierarchical framework. elevation of the arts above ordinary experience This invites a different aesthetic, in which sport can be regarded as a type of art. In this regard, the role of metaphor, both positively and negatively devolving from the post-modern "language turn," leads to a holistic conception of experience, whether classified as art or sport, and this is argued for as the so-called "argument from intertwining."
