Transgenderism, Schizophrenia and Neurosis: Brain Abnormality or Coping Mechanisms? | Book Publisher International

Transgender individuals suffer from serious psycho-physiological problems. There is no empirical base for the belief that transgenderism is the consequence of brain abnormality. Studies challenge the validity of traditional theories of psychopathology, including the idea that the brain is the key to understanding behavioral disorders. A new theory, which, like Freud, focuses on the explanation of bizarre behaviors, claims that these bizarre behaviors are coping mechanisms, which individuals intuitively adopt when faced with an intolerable level of stress. A multi-case study, consisting of a large variety of behavioral disorders, demonstrates that all shared the same diagnostic criteria, and etiology. All blocked the accessibility of stress-related thoughts and enhanced the individual’s ability to exercise control over the stressor. This theory can integrate all therapeutic methods pertaining to bizarre behaviors into one theoretical framework. An examination of relevant data indicates that gender identity conversion therapy can be highly effective for transgender individuals if accompanied by insight and coping skills training.

Determination of Factors Influencing Condom Usage among Male to Female Transgender in Chennai City | Chapter 8 | Issues and Development in Health Research Vol. 7

 Male to female transgender people suffer a variety of challenges, including financial uncertainty, a lack of employment opportunities, social rejection, and gender-based assault and abuse. As a result, they are at danger of becoming one of the HIV-infected populations. They are forced to engage in sex work because to a lack of education and employment, with study revealing that 90% of Male to Female Transgender in India engage in sex work, exposing them to HIV infection. This necessitates a comprehensive investigation of condom usage patterns as well as the factors that influence condom use.

Study the condom usage patterns of the respondents, as well as the many factors that influence condom usage.

In June 2016, 784 Male to Female Transgender individuals enlisted in the CBO - Thozhi, 275 in the Transgender Rights Association (TRA), and 282 in the Tamil Nadu Aravanigal Association (THAA). The study involved a total of 299 participants. A mixed method study was used to collect qualitative data, which included nine in-depth interviews and three focus group talks with six respondents in each group.

Finding: One-quarter of respondents (25%) lived alone, whereas nearly one-fifth (18%) of respondents lived with their male sex partners. Sex work was the primary occupation of more than a quarter of those polled (28%) and the secondary occupation of a third of those polled (34%) of those polled. Only 40% of the 120 persons who worked in the sex industry and 40% of the 134 people who had long-term male partners used condoms on a regular basis. Need for more money (69 percent), alcoholism (63 percent), law enforcement and anti-socialists refusing to use (24 percent), sexual satisfaction (74 percent), and with attractive clients (54 percent). Love/fear of being disserted/inability to use with husband were some of the replies given by respondents who had permanent partners.
