Mitigating DDoS Attacks in Blockchain Environments Using a Multi-level Security Framework | Chapter 8 | Mathematics and Computer Science: Research Updates Vol. 5

In the current era of rapid digital transformation, blockchain technology has emerged as one of the most disruptive innovations across multiple sectors. Apart from its growing prominence, there remains a significant lack of awareness regarding its practical applications and potential benefits. This paper briefly explores the vast applications of blockchain technology with a particular focus on the challenges encountered within the IT industry. It delves into the technical and operational hurdles that organisations face when attempting to adopt and implement blockchain solutions. By combining strategic planning, architectural best practices and risk mitigation techniques, our framework aims to facilitate more secure, scalable and cost-effective incorporation of blockchain into existing IT ecosystems. The paper proposes a comprehensive framework aimed at addressing these challenges, offering strategic insights for more effective and secure integration of blockchain into existing IT infrastructures.

Enhancing Industrial Occupational Safety through an IoT-based Monitoring and Access Management | Chapter 6 | Research and Developments in Engineering Research Vol. 9

This research directed on the successful deployment of an IoT-located monitoring and approach control system for alcohol, fire and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to considerably enhance business safety and hazard management inside an industrial scene. The implementation of the industrial mechanization monitoring system was organized on the Internet of Things (IoT) example. This system serves to bolster approach control and safety administration within the storage convenience of a prominent industrial plant. The system surveys the surroundings for potential risks of LPG leakages and fire hazards. The system's sensor modules, comprising intoxicating, LPG, and fire sensors, capture relevant data that is then sent to microcontrollers for processing. The NodeMCU microcontroller plays a pivotal part in initiating the IoT-located alert mechanism. It accomplishes this by expediting processed data to the ThingSpeak podium, SMS alerts, and the designated site accessible to authorised employees. The listening framework acts alcohol level checks on employees before authorizing them approach to the facility. The system's response is not restricted to issuing alerts; it also generates the activation of the fire abolition system through the sprinkler revolution. In real-occasion, the system swiftly scatters alert and alarm notifications to fault-finding stakeholders in the HSE department, fire commission, security units, and additional authorized crew. This communication is facilitated through the manufacturing's dedicated site and a designated GSM line. By implementing this IoT-compelled monitoring system, the industrialized storage convenience has effectively taken full of enthusiasm measures to mitigate institution hazards. This includes preventing the vicinity of intoxicated attendants on-site, averting potential LPG leakages, and minimizing the risk of fire outbreaks.

A Cost-effective 2-tier Security Paradigm to Safeguard Cloud Data with Faster Authentication: A Recent Study | Chapter 02 | Novel Perspectives of Engineering Research Vol. 9

Recent technological advancements have propelled cloud computing (CC) infrastructure to new heights, with increased research focusing on cost-effective storage management. Due to the potential distributed and pervasive storage facility, it is inefficient in fully preserving the integrity of user data attributes. As a result, the collaborative sharing of user data creates a situation in which various security flaws emerge. Consumer data is obtained in the cloud by cloud service providers who can be trusted or untrustworthy. Various security protocols have been observed in the past that attempted to solve this similar problem with cryptographic solutions, but they lack computational sustainability and robustness. As a result, the study introduces a two-tier framework that provides enhanced access control and storage security for Virtual Machines (VMs). The research essentially improves the model's performance by hastening the authentication process. The system's performance has been compared to industry-standard encryption standards. In terms of processing time, time to generate a secret key, and key size for encryption, the results show that the proposed solution outperforms existing security standards.

Development of an Integrated Campus Security Alertng and Access Control System | Chapter 7 | Emerging Trends in Engineering Research and Technology Vol. 9

The development of an integrated Security Alerting and Access Control System for campuses in the

Universities and Colleges is aimed at providing a framework where security alerting and access
control is enhanced to provide safe and secured environment for academic, administrative and
business activities. It consists of the access control unit, the emergency alerting unit and the
surveillance unit. The access control unit is used to restrict entrance to critical facilities such as
hostels, library, etc to unauthorized persons. It uses the fingerprint biometrics to restrict entrance to
the facility, thereby preventing intrusion and theft. Only fingerprints on the database of the particular
facility are allowed access to the facility. The emergency alerting unit is used to send alerting signals
to the security personnel regarding security challenges that occur within the facility under
investigation. In this work, wireless emergency alerting system was designed and implemented. A
software program in C language was developed for the operation of the microcontrollers. Emergency
signal sent through any of the input units was accepted, encoded and then sent to the receiver unit
where it is processed and an alerting message displayed on the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) with an
accompanying audio alarm. Both emergency alerting and access control signal program software
were simulated with Proteus 8. The surveillance unit on the other hand is used to capture and store
images within and around the monitored facilities. Results from both simulations and prototype design
of a typical facility were satisfactory.
